Job Description

This Data Scientist role at Microsoft's Research + Insights Team involves mining 1P and 3P big data for actionable marketing insights. Responsibilities include building predictive models using various data, collaborating with data engineering teams on data requirements and storage, and ensuring model scalability. The role requires applying technical consumer marketing/media data knowledge to modeling design, collaborating with other data scientists, and writing durable code using SQL, Python, Azure Databricks, and similar tools. Statistical assessment of model quality and audience prediction scaling are also crucial. The work must comply with Microsoft's Privacy Policy and Secure Future Initiative. The candidate will create requirements for media-based models and analytic approaches and track/analyze audience-related KPIs.
Must have:
  • Doctorate or Master's/Bachelor's with relevant experience

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field
    • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ years) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) or consulting experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience working within marketing analytics/ data sciences, advertising agency, or similar.
  • Experience with Python and SQL.
  • Experience building predictive models.
  • Experience scaling models leveraging tools such as Databricks and languages.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years' experience working within marketing analytics/ data sciences, advertising agency, or similar including knowledge of the latest audience testing technologies.

Data Science IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.

Responsibilities

This exciting new role informs crucial marketing efforts by mining 1P (first party) and 3P (third party) big data assets for actionable insights to diagnose and uncover new opportunities. They will build predictive models using various data and collaborate with those in data engineering teams on data requirements and storage, including guidance on model scaling. All of these responsibilities will be completed in compliance with Microsoft’s Privacy Policy and in accordance with our Secure Future Initiative.

  • Apply technical consumer marketing/ media data knowledge to inform modeling design.
  • Collaborate with other data scientists on business goals and outcomes for audiences.
  • Write durable code for predicting audiences based on testing goals and addressable market sizes using SQL, Python, Azure Databricks and similar tools.
  • Use statistical knowledge to assess quality of models and audience predictions.
  • Scale audience models to ensure usable sizes for testing.
  • Create requirements and drive consistency for various media based models and analytic approaches.
  • Track and analyze KPIs relating to audience.
