Job Description

The Datacenter Infrastructure Engineering team at ByteDance supports the company's fast growth by building and operating hyperscale datacenters. This role focuses on managing the end-to-end lifecycle of the server fleet, providing cloud solutions, and various infrastructure services ensuring scalability and reliability. You will be responsible for understanding design limitations and risks, auditing and collaborating with colocation partners on maintenance programs, reviewing data hall fit-outs, managing change management processes for high-risk maintenance activities, and fostering positive relationships with partner teams, vendors, and internal customers.
Must have:
  • Diploma or Professional Certification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant discipline.
  • Knowledge of standard power and cooling calculations.
  • Experience with Power Redundancy and its implementation in design.
  • Understand Cooling Redundancy and how Concurrent Maintainability is implemented in design.
  • Experience in supervising construction teams for data hall fit-outs.
  • Experience in influencing testing and commissioning teams for L1 to L5 commissioning tests.
  • Electrical and/or mechanical engineering experience (generators, chillers, cooling towers, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to clarity and detail.
Good to have:
  • A high level of agility with the ability to prioritize work and stay organized in a complex, fast-paced environment with high ambiguity.
  • Vendors, projects, or program engagement experience.
  • Good judgment with a calculated risk approach during uncertainties.

About the Team The Datacenter Infrastructure Engineering team supports the company's fast growth by building and operating hyperscale datacenters. The team manages the end to end lifecycle of server fleet, providing cloud solutions and various infrastructure services ensuring that they are scalable and are reliable. About the Role The team is looking for candidates with strong technical infrastructure backgrounds, passionate about engineering excellence, and providing effective and sustainable solutions with an eye to the future. You understand the challenges associated with deploying infrastructure at scale and have experience in designing systems and platforms that set the global standard for performance, availability, security, and cost. The work you do will influence processes globally. Responsibilities • Support the DC Operations team as a Subject Matter Expert to understand and manage design limitations and risks. • Regularly audit, review, and collaborate with our CoLocation Partners on their maintenance program and effectiveness. • Participate and review Data Hall Fit-Outs to confirm design specifications are being followed • Manage and drive the change management process for high-risk maintenance activities in our data centers. • Continually maintain positive and collaborative working relations with partner teams, vendors, teammates, and internal customers.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications • Diploma or Professional Certification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or relevant discipline. • Knowledge of standard power and cooling calculations necessary to determine capacity requirements (i.e., TIA-942, ASHRAE). • Experience with Power Redundancy and its implementation in design (i.e., 2N or N+1 Distributed Redundant). • Understand Cooling Redundancy and how Concurrent Maintainability is implemented in design (i.e., N+1 or N+2). • Experience in the following areas: - Supervision of the construction team to complete Data Hall fit-out experience, including IT services Coordination, Power and Cooling Planning. - Influence the testing and commissioning team to perform L1 to L5 commissioning tests to validate the system design intent and resolve technical problems. • Electrical and/or mechanical engineering experience such as generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, UPS, electrical sub-distribution systems, etc. • Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to clarity and detail.
