Job Description

This Design Director role involves leading the design vision and strategy for a revolutionary F2P AAA mobile RPG. Responsibilities include team leadership, overseeing game mechanics and systems design, ensuring player engagement and retention through live ops systems, collaborating with various departments (art, engineering, production, marketing), managing design schedules and resources, and staying updated on industry trends. The ideal candidate possesses proven senior design experience in mobile gaming (preferably with Live Ops/gacha games), strong leadership and mentoring skills, deep understanding of game mechanics and player psychology, proficiency in data analysis, and excellent communication skills. The role offers flexible work arrangements (remote, in-office, or hybrid) and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Vision and Strategy:
    • Develop and communicate a compelling design vision and strategy for a revolutionary F2P AAA mobile RPG.
    • Ensure the design aligns with the overall company goals and product objectives.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of designers, fostering creativity and collaboration.
    • Establish best practices and design principles to guide the team in creating engaging and immersive game experiences.
  • Game Design:
    • Oversee the design of game mechanics, systems, and features, ensuring they are innovative and compelling.
    • Ensure the elements driving the game’s economy are seamlessly integrated into the game design to enhance player engagement and retention.
  • Player Experience:
    • Advocate for the player experience, ensuring the game is fun, engaging, and accessible.
    • Use player feedback, analytics, and market research to refine and improve the game design.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other departments, including art, engineering, production, and marketing, to ensure a cohesive, high-quality game experience.
    • Communicate design goals and progress clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Project Management:
    • Manage design schedules and resources to ensure timely delivery of milestones.
    • Identify and mitigate risks in the design process to ensure smooth development.
  • Innovation and Trends:
    • Stay updated on industry trends, competitive products, and new technologies to ensure the game remains cutting-edge.
    • Encourage and drive innovation within the design team to keep the game fresh and engaging.

About You

  • Experience:
    • Proven experience in a senior design role within the mobile gaming industry, preferably with experience in Live Ops/gacha games.
    • A strong portfolio demonstrating successful game design projects.
  • Leadership:
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and inspire a diverse team of designers.
    • Experience in managing and scaling design teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Design Expertise:
    • Deep understanding of game mechanics, systems design, and player psychology.
    • Expertise in designing and balancing live ops systems to maximise player engagement and monetisation.
  • Analytical Skills:
    • Ability to analyse player data and feedback to inform design decisions.
    • Proficiency in using analytics tools to track and improve game performance.
  • Communication:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey design concepts and feedback.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration across departments.
  • Creativity and Innovation:
    • A passion for creating engaging and innovative game experiences.
    • Ability to think outside the box and push the boundaries of mobile game design.
  • Education:
    • A degree in Game Design, Computer Science, Interactive Media, or a related field is preferred, but not essential with equivalent experience.
