Job Description

ESPN is seeking a Digital Content Executive to support its audience growth strategy. This role will work with editorial, advertising, and product teams to plan, merchandise, and manage video content to maximize audience engagement and retention. Responsibilities include planning, merchandising, and managing ESPN content to maximize audience engagement and retention; ensuring ESPN digital content is available strategically and timely using the content management platform and delivery workflows; QA'ing all content published to ESPN digital platforms; working closely with the global ESPN teams to plan/wireframe monthly merchandising layouts, prioritizing promotions and events based on global/local requirements; and maintaining the ESPN editorial tone of voice for ANZ.

Job Summary:

ESPN is a division of The Walt Disney Company and is the world’s leading sports entertainment company with a mission to serve sports fans. ESPN Australia holds an extensive portfolio of premium sports rights including the NBA, NFL, MLB and UFC, along with Australia’s NBL and WNBL basketball leagues.

The primary focus of the Digital Content Executive is to support ESPN’s audience growth strategy by working with our editorial, advertising and product teams to plan, merchandise, and manage video content to maximise audience engagement and retention.

This role will be required to work some evenings and weekends in line with programming and scheduling requirements and may be required for out of hours calls with our global teams. Flexible working arrangements and time in lieu will be provided where needed. 

This is a 12 month contract initially.

Your key responsibilities will be, but are not limited to:

  • Plan, merchandise and manage ESPN content to maximise audience engagement and retention
  • Using our content management platform and delivery workflows, ensure ESPN digital content is made available in a strategic and timely manner  
  • QA all content as it is published to ESPN digital platforms, checking that content performs as expected and all is presented to the highest editorial standard
  • Work closely with the broader global ESPN teams to plan/wireframe the merchandising layout each month. Prioritising promotions and events depending on a variety of global/local requirements and maintain the ESPN editorial tone of voice for ANZ.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years’ experience in digital media, programming, analysis, including hands-on CMS, tools, and deep spreadsheet experience expected
  • Proficiency in business metrics and numbers, with the ability to review data and translate analyses into understandable and actionable points
  • Passion for sports from both a fan and business perspective. and serving sports fans
  • Good understanding of the Australian sports media landscape and video consumption habits.
  • High level of creativity and able to demonstrate innovation and imagination with content promotion
  • Externally focussed – actively looks for ‘best practice’ and assesses market and competitive activity for insights
  • Succeeds through collaboration – works with others to achieve desired results. Always considers as priority ‘what is best for the business’. Ability to build strong relationships at different levels
  • Flexibility and adaptability – able to work through ambiguity and changing landscapes
