The Director, Data Architecture & Engineering will guide the organization's technology strategy. The role involves aligning data architecture with enterprise goals to optimize technology investments, provide expertise in data solutions, and ensure alignment with the overall enterprise architecture strategy. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining a data architecture framework, providing technical leadership on data engineering projects, collaborating with stakeholders, designing data models and pipelines, evaluating new technologies, championing automation, and contributing to data governance. This role requires expertise in data architecture, data engineering, and related fields. Additionally, it involves understanding cloud principles, data modeling, and data integration patterns.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education. PPFA and the Action Fund seek a Director, Data Architecture & Engineering. This individual will report to the National Director, IT Enterprise Architecture in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).


Purpose: 

The Director, Data Architecture and Engineering will play a pivotal role in guiding the organization's technology strategy. By providing expertise and aligning data architecture with the broader enterprise goals, this individual ensures that technology investments are optimized to meet both current operational needs and future strategic objectives.  This is achieved through the following actions:

● Enabling business and IT leaders to make investment decisions that balance and prioritize current operational demands, disruptions, and opportunities with the longer-term strategic vision of the organization

● Providing technology guidance, roadmaps, principles, standards, and best practices related to data architecture and engineering   

● Supporting the Tech Business Partner team by providing expertise and guidance on data solutions

● Ensuring alignment of data architecture and engineering with the overall enterprise architecture strategy


Delivery: 

This individual will be expected to:

● Develop and maintain a comprehensive data architecture framework that aligns with PPFA's business strategy and supports the organization's data management needs.    

● Provide technical leadership and guidance on data engineering projects, ensuring adherence to architectural principles, standards, and best practices.

● Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to gather data requirements, analyze business needs, and translate them into actionable data solutions.

● Design, implement, and maintain data models, data pipelines, and data storage solutions that meet PPFA's current and future data needs.    

● Evaluate and recommend new and emerging data technologies, tools, and techniques to enhance PPFA's data capabilities.

● Champion automation in data engineering workflows to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

● Contribute to the development and maintenance of data governance processes and policies to ensure data quality, integrity, and security.


Engagement: 

This individual will engage with others around the organization in the following ways:

● Partner with the National Director, IT Enterprise Architecture, to ensure alignment of data architecture and engineering with the overall enterprise architecture strategy.

● Collaborate with the Tech Business Partner team to provide expertise and guidance on data solutions, ensuring alignment with business needs and strategic goals.

● Work closely with IT teams, including application development, infrastructure, and security, to ensure seamless integration of data solutions into PPFA's technology ecosystem.

● Engage with business stakeholders to understand their data needs, provide technical guidance, and foster a data-driven culture within the organization.

● Partner with business stakeholders and data analytics teams to support the delivery of data-driven insights and capabilities.

● Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, translating complex data concepts into clear and concise language.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): 

● 8+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or related roles is required.

● Strong understanding of cloud principles, data modeling techniques, data warehousing principles, and data integration patterns is required.

● Experience with data engineering tools and technologies, including ETL processes, data pipelines, and data storage solutions is required.

● Knowledge of data security best practices and experience implementing data protection measures is required.

● Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills are required.

● Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field is preferred, but not required.


Travel: 0-10%, as needed


$155,000 - $165,000 a year

Total offer package to include generous vacation + sick leave + paid holidays, individual/family provided medical, dental and vision benefits effective day 1, life insurance, short/long term disability, paid family leave and 401k. We also offer voluntary opt-in for Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Transportation/Commuter accounts.

Roles that are denoted as NYC, DC, or both will work a hybrid schedule and are expected to work in their assigned PPFA office a minimum 2 days per week unless the role is denoted as onsite, which requires working onsite full time or 5 days per week.
