As Director of Product for Payments, you'll lead the strategy and execution of GoFundMe and Classy's payment capabilities. This includes defining the vision for the payments platform, developing innovative solutions across global markets, and ensuring a seamless and secure experience for all users. Responsibilities involve building next-generation intelligence using AI and machine learning, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and championing customer needs. You will ensure regulatory compliance, drive a data-driven culture, and mentor product managers. The role requires a strong understanding of payment gateways, merchant acquirers, and global payment methods, with a focus on optimizing payment funnels and improving authorization rates.
Must have:
  • 10+ years product management experience (5+ years leading payment/fintech teams)

As the Director of Product for Payments, you will lead the strategy and execution for GoFundMe and Classy’s core payments capabilities, ensuring a seamless and secure experience for donors, fundraisers, nonprofits, and businesses. You will define the vision for our payments platform, driving the development of innovative, scalable solutions that span multiple global markets and payment methods. Collaborating with engineering, design, and many other teams, you’ll ensure our payment ecosystem remains reliable, compliant, and optimized for experience and conversion while enabling innovative ways to help people help each other. Your leadership and technical expertise will be instrumental in building a frictionless, trustworthy experience that enables our community to make a greater impact on the world.

Candidates considered for this position will be located or willing to relocate to San Francisco, CA. This is a hybrid role with expectations to go into the SF office 3x per week

The Job…

  • Lead the vision and strategy for the payments product line: Define a compelling roadmap that enhances payment flows, improves reliability, and builds critical payments infrastructure with clear benefits to our end customers
  • Own the end-to-end payments platform roadmap: Drive features related to transaction processing, payment gateway integrations, fraud prevention, currency support, settlements, and payout operations across B2B and B2C contexts.
  • Build next-generation intelligence: Leverage data from GoFundMe and Classy to develop AI-driven tools and machine learning models that optimize payment authorization rates, detect fraudulent activities, and enhance donor trust.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner closely with engineering, design, analytics, risk, compliance, and customer support teams to make informed decisions on product direction, technical trade-offs, and user experience enhancements.
  • Champion the customer: Understand the needs of donors, nonprofits, and businesses through user research, data analysis, and market insights. Ensure that every payment touchpoint is intuitive, transparent, and aligned with user expectations.
  • Ensure regulatory and compliance alignment: Work closely with privacy, legal, and compliance teams to adhere to industry standards (PCI DSS) and global regulations, prioritizing user security and trust.
  • Drive a data-driven culture: Use analytics, A/B testing, and user feedback to prioritize initiatives, measure product success, and continuously iterate for growth and improvement.
  • Inspire and mentor product managers: Foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture, developing a high-performing team committed to delivering impact and supporting our customers’ missions.
  • Navigate complexity with confidence: Provide clarity in ambiguous situations, set clear priorities, and maintain focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.

You…

  • 10+ years of product management experience, with at least 5 years leading payment and / or fintech product teams.
  • Proven track record in scaling payment platforms, including experience with payment gateways, merchant acquirers, and global payment methods.
  • Technical proficiency to engage with engineering teams on payment infrastructure, security, and compliance challenges.
  • Experience serving both B2B and B2C markets, understanding the nuances that drive donor, nonprofit, and business stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Strong analytical skills, using metrics and qualitative insights to inform product decisions, optimize payment funnels, and improve authorization rates.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence executives, partners, and customers, and represent the company on stage at industry events.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments—bringing order, alignment, and focused execution to the team.
  • Leadership experience mentoring teams, setting strategic direction, and creating a culture of innovation, trust, and continuous learning.

The total annual salary for this full-time position is $260,000 - $350,000 + equity + benefits.  The salary range was determined by role, level, and possible location across the US. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
