Job Description

The City of Pueblo is seeking a Director of Stormwater to oversee all operations of the Stormwater Department, including engineering, maintenance, and administration. This role involves managing the Stormwater Utility Enterprise, implementing the City's National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (MS4 Permit), and developing the construction, operation, and maintenance of the City's stormwater system. The Director will also supervise Stormwater Department staff and oversee Stormwater billing. This full-time position offers a PERA retirement plan, a supportive work environment, and a competitive annual salary.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology accredited by ABET
  • Seven years of progressive stormwater engineering experience
  • Three years of experience supervising stormwater engineering professionals
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Colorado or ability to obtain reciprocity
  • Valid driver's license
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) within six months
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in business administration, public administration, engineering, or engineering technology

Job Description

The City of Pueblo is looking for a qualified candidate to be our Director of Stormwater!  As the Director of Stormwater, you’ll oversee all operations of the Stormwater Department including engineering, maintenance, and administration. You’ll be responsible for managing the Stormwater Utility Enterprise, for implementing the City’s National Pollution Discharge Elimination System, MS4 Permit, and for developing the construction, operation, and maintenance of the City’s stormwater system. Additionally, you’ll supervise Stormwater Department staff and oversee Stormwater billing.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in any engineering or engineering technology program accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology)  
  • Seven (7) years of successful experience demonstrating a progression in responsibilities; complexity of duties; and technical, managerial, and leadership growth in the practice of stormwater engineering 
  • Three (3) years of experience supervising other professionals in the practice of stormwater engineering
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado, or licensure as a Professional Engineer in another U.S. state or territory with the ability to obtain a Colorado registration through reciprocity within six (6) months from date of appointment
  • A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment
    • License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification 
    • During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) Certification within six (6) months from date of appointment
  • The selected candidate must reside within the corporate boundaries of the County of Pueblo, within six (6) months of first date of hire pursuant to Pueblo Municipal Code section 6-4-10 regarding residency requirement

Preferred:

  • A master’s degree in business administration, public administration, engineering, or engineering technology
