Job Description

As a Distributed Systems Engineer (L4) in Content Engineering at Netflix, you'll build and operate robust, scalable, and highly available infrastructure. You'll collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams, focusing on developer experience, observability, and operational excellence. Responsibilities include developing microservices, data modeling, API design, participating in on-call rotation, and leading incident reviews. You'll work on projects impacting how Netflix's studio creates and promotes content globally, dealing with complex requirements and contributing to a diverse and inclusive team.
Must have:
  • 2+ years experience with distributed systems
  • Proficient in Java, C# or OO languages
  • Understanding of multithreading, parallelism, and observability
  • Microservices, data modeling, API design experience
  • Excellent communication skills
Good to have:
  • Infrastructure/platform building experience
  • gRPC/GraphQL API design and implementation
  • Experience with cloud storage, data platforms, or event-driven infrastructure

You’ll have a direct impact on how the Netflix studio creates and promotes shows such as “Squid Game”, “Stranger Things” and “The Queen’s Gambit” on a global scale.

Qualifications:

  • Have 2+ years of experience working on distributed systems features or applications.

  • Have recent proficient experience with Java, C# or other OO programming languages, as well as OO design principles.

  • Have a good understanding of concepts like multithreading and parallelism, as well as software observability.

  • Experience in developing microservices, data modeling and API designs.

  • Have the ability to describe complex technical concepts to cross functional team peers, driving conversations and decisions through written and/or verbal communication.

  • Participate in our on-call rotation and lead the incident reviews.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in building infrastructure and platforms.

  • Experience in API design and implementation using gRPC and/or GraphQL.

  • Experience in any of the following areas: cloud storage/file system, data platform, event-driven infrastructure, ontology, and workflow orchestration.

The   is Netflix’s media processing platform. We enable innovation from experiment to productization in the media processing domain and provide an industry-leading path for quantifiably reliable, efficient, scalable, easy to use, easy to operate media processing solutions. Our platforms act as an enabler for media processing teams. Our team’s platform is critical to Netflix— every video in the Netflix catalog has been processed by Cosmos or one of its predecessors.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $170,000 - $720,000.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
