Job Description

What to Expect

Duration: 6 months

Time Type: Full Time

Duration: 6 months

Location: Athens, Greece

Tesla’s Motor Design team drives the selection of all drive unit components for all the company’s production vehicles. Therefore, it is crucial that the powertrain is modeled accurately and its effect on the vehicle dynamics, performance & efficiency are captured appropriately.

As an intern on the motor design team, located in Athens, Greece, you will help design, simulate & improve the modeling of next gen traction motor powertrains as well as other auxiliary systems. You will be challenged by a wide range of problems like design trade-offs, multi-objective selection of drive unit components, between optimal cost / efficiency / performance, or modeling complex dynamic phenomena on a vehicle level. Finally, you will be asked to contribute in the design of actuated systems for various auxiliary applications of the vehicle.

What You’ll Do
  • Responsible for developing advanced Matlab tools & apps to model powertrain performance
  • Develop new and enhance existing motor system optimization functions based on multiple criteria
  • Model vehicle dynamics and evaluate system performance & efficiency
  • Process big data, select the most compelling candidates and visualize the results
  • Gain experience with numerical optimization and visualization of multi-objective tradeoffs
  • Develop solid understanding of electrical machine design and identify the impact of key design and operating parameters
What You’ll Bring
  • Ongoing Engineering studies (preferably at last year of studies)
  • Fluency in English
  • Strong mathematical and physics background.
  • Strong Matlab programming skills
  • Very good understanding of electromagnetics and electric circuits

The following will be considered as plus:

  • Good understanding of thermal and mechanical modeling
  • Experience analyzing electric motors using Finite Element Method
  • Experience in data science & big data analysis
  • Understanding of optimization fundamentals
  • Experience in Matlab App development
