Job Description

The Electronics Failure Analysis Engineer EMEA at Tesla will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and resolving issues affecting Tesla Energy Products (Megapack, Supercharger, Powerwall). This individual contributor role involves hands-on failure analysis, root cause determination, and reporting, including meticulous documentation in Tesla's Root Cause Database. Collaboration with other departments is crucial for parts transfer and information sharing. The engineer needs in-depth knowledge of electro-mechanical components and relevant tools/equipment. Responsibilities encompass designing and conducting fault replication tests, performing destructive and non-destructive analysis, collaborating on countermeasures, outlining testing procedures, and creating failure analysis reports. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and familiarity with various failure analysis techniques. Adaptability and detail-orientation are key in this fast-paced environment.

What to Expect

The Role Electronics Failure Analysis Engineer EMEA will be responsible for determining root cause and contributing factors and drive resolution for all Tesla Energy Products like Megapack, Supercharger and Powerwall. This is an individual contributor role with great internal visibility role that requires extensive hands-on work focused on failure analysis and root cause activities for Tesla.

We are seeking a multi-faceted individual who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root causing and reporting on issues effecting systems. This include diligently adding the information and evidence into Tesla’s Root Cause Database, developing relationships with other functional departments to ensure the parts or information is transferred to the appropriate team.

To be effective in this role, the engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of these electro-mechanical components and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. This person will work with other teams to root cause of field issues to improve quality, reliability, durability of the products.  

The team is continuous evolving, and the responsibilities may change over time -this role requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the team/organization.

What You’ll Do
  • Drive issue resolution from root cause analysis to countermeasure implementation on electromechanical components for Tesla’s Energy Products.
  • Investigate system assemblies, modules, components to identify root cause of failure in Tesla’s Energy Products
  • Perform destructive and non-destructive Root Cause Analysis on Tesla Energy products
  • Design and conduct fault replication tests experiments on power converters and low voltage PCBA's including board rework and FW/HW testing.
  • Perform database transactions to manage the tracking, receiving, storing and moving of parts
  • Collaborate with appropriate team in developing and implementing containment countermeasures. to drive resolution to the identified failure causes.
  • Collaborate with the team to assure data integrity, accuracy and efficiency in handling of returned parts
  • Outline SOP’s (testing procedures) for testing field failure parts
  • Creating Failure Analysis reports of conducted testing methods, testing results and failure data
  • Assist in implementation and maintenance of 5S and MRB best practices
  • Candidate should be detail oriented, and excellent communication skills.
What You’ll Bring
  • A foundation Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent background is a must. 
  • Strong demonstrable experience in Root Cause Analysis/8D problem solving.
  • Understanding of design and manufacturing of Electrical/Electronic (Power Electronics/power converter circuits ) process is a plus
  • Strong demonstrable hands-on experience with electrical test equipment: Power Supplies, Multimeter, Oscilloscopes, and other common equipment.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn the different failure analysis techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Experience with hand tools, basic power tools, soldering, and instrumentation is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and keep on task in an extremely fast-paced environment without direct supervision.
  • Must be detail orientated, reliable, have good initiative, determination, and quality focused.
  • Ability to perform repetitive duties whilst standing.
