Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) is seeking an Embedded QA Specialist to support their Engine/Editor team for their multiplayer online game, Star Citizen, and single-player epic, Squadron 42. The role involves testing team creations, tools, and providing feedback to improve game quality. Responsibilities include improving testing procedures, identifying requirements, verifying game features and systems, creating and executing test cases, acting as a liaison for QA support to the Engine & Editor team globally, and composing progress reports. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable game testing experience, advanced skills in issue identification and isolation, and strong knowledge in technical QA areas like scripting, game engines, editors, development tools, and backend services. Experience with Python, Perforce, Linux, writing test cases, bug tracking tools (e.g., Jira), and game engines is expected. The candidate should be organized, motivated, adaptable, proactive, and possess excellent communication skills. A passion for video games, especially sim/space games, is a plus.

About the Role 

This role will focus on supporting the Engine/Editor team in their tasks within our multiplayer online game, Star Citizen, and our story-driven single player epic Squadron 42. The successful person will be supporting not only testing the team’s creations in client, but also testing the tools used to create these pieces, as well as providing feedback. As the tester assigned to the team, your work will directly affect the quality of Star Citizen and Squadron 42. 

This is an onsite role based at our studio in Frankfurt, Germany. 
 

What does an Embedded QA Specialist at CIG do? 

  • Support the Engine/Editor team by improving existing testing procedures and identifying requirements. 

  • Verify game features, systems, and tools daily and provide feedback for the team. 

  • Create, execute and maintain test cases on assigned projects as well as ad-hoc testing on focused areas. 

  • Act as point of contact and liaison for QA support for the Engine & Editor team globally. 

  • Compose regular progress updates and reports for leadership. 

 

What do we expect from our Embedded QA Specialists? 

  • Demonstrable game testing experience with advanced skills in identifying and isolating issues systemically to help with resolving problems quicker. 

  • A strong focus/knowledge in technical areas of QA including, but not limited to; Scripting, Game Engines, Game Editors, Development Tools, and an understanding of Backend Services 

  • Knowledge of more advanced technical areas, i.e. Python, Perforce, Linux etc. 

  • Experience with writing test cases and ownership of feature areas as well as a good knowledge of bug tracking tools, such as Jira. 

  • Ability to stay organized and motivated to meet specific deadlines. 

  • Ability to effectively manage your time and task prioritization. 

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, always-changing work environment where adaptability is paramount 

  • Knowledge / usage of a game engine to be able to investigate and understand complex engine issues. 

  • Being highly proactive, searching for problems to solve, testing opportunities and team tasks to get involved in  

  • Ability to connect effectively with your cross-disciplined team and other departments through great communication skills. 

  • Ability to maintain testing documentation. 

  • Innovative approach to problem solving, working meticulously with the highest attention to detail. 

  • Work confidently as part of a team and individually.   

  • Flexibility to help other teams when needed and support testing outside of specialisation   

  • Passion for video games especially for sim/space games.
