Job Description

World Relief seeks an Employment Specialist to assist refugees and immigrants in preparing for, securing, and retaining employment for economic self-sufficiency. The role involves assessing client skills, developing employment plans, referring clients to necessary resources, and providing job counseling. Responsibilities include representing World Relief to employers, acting as a liaison, and offering life skills orientation. The specialist will also follow up with clients post-placement to ensure continued employment and maintain detailed client records and reports. This is a limited-term position funded by a grant until September 20, 2026.
Must have:
  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license
  • Ability to log activities and complete reports
  • Sensitivity working with diverse backgrounds
  • Work well on a team
  • Proficiency in MS Office
Good to have:
  • Relevant experience in employment or immigrant services
  • Proficiency in Swahili or another foreign language

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.


This position is reliant upon funding and may be subject to modification or termination based on resource availability.


POSITION SUMMARY:

If you answered ‘yes’, to any of the above, World Relief, and millions of people around the world need you.  The Employment Specialist will assist refugees and immigrants to prepare for, secure, and retain employment that will make economic self-sufficiency possible. This position will work in close collaboration with other employment and casework staff at World Relief QC, as well as employer partners within the community. 

This is a limited-term position funded through a grant agreement until September 20, 2026 and contingent upon funding extension.


ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide assessment of client’s skills and experience and develop an employment plan with reasonable employment goals and strategies that will lead to employment
  • When appropriate, refer clients to other resources including childcare providers, DMV, medical care, job training, transportation information, and other sources and services that will remove identified barriers to employment
  • Provide job counseling and assist clients in developing effective job applications, resumes, and interview techniques
  • Represent World Relief to area employers as a desirable source of workers, acting as liaison between employer and client to ensure good employer relationships
  • Provide orientation on various life skills topics (budgeting, paying rent/utilities, riding the bus, scheduling medical appointments, etc.) when applicable
  • Ensure security of full-time employment and offer transportation solutions of clients within their first 5 years in the USA
  • Follow up with clients after job placement to address areas of concern and ensure continued employment
  • Maintain and complete detailed and accurate records of client files, case notes, and reporting records and submit monthly program reports

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable transportation, insurance coverage, and valid driver's license
  • Ability to log activities, complete reports, and compose case notes
  • Ability to deal with complex and diverse individual and family situations
  • Demonstrated understanding of case management processes; extremely detail-oriented, excellent time management skills
  • Skill and sensitivity working with people from various backgrounds and beliefs
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and resolve problems/issues promptly and effectively
  • Ability to work well on a team in a synergistic work environment, a flexible and motivated team player Computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word) and internet applications required
  • High School Diploma
  • Relevant experience in employment or immigrant services preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and able to pass the background check and MVR
  • Cross cultural competency

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma
  • Proficiency in Swahili or another foreign language is highly desired
