Job Description

The Tesla Energy Policy Intern in Melbourne, Victoria will support the development of policy and energy market reforms related to utility-scale battery energy storage (BESS) assets, residential batteries, solar systems, and EV charging equipment. This multifaceted role requires strong commitment to Tesla's mission, excellent written communication, stakeholder engagement, and data analysis skills. Responsibilities include reviewing state and federal energy policies, drafting regulatory submissions, developing thought leadership articles, representing Tesla in industry working groups, managing submission timelines, and collaborating with internal teams (engineering, finance, legal). The ideal candidate possesses working knowledge of battery systems, renewable power, and grid markets and excels in parallel task management.

What to Expect

The Tesla Energy Policy team supports the development of all policy and energy market reforms related to utility scale battery energy storage (BESS) assets, residential batteries and solar systems and EV charging equipment.

This is multi-faceted role where applicants should show a strong commitment to Tesla’s company mission of “accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy”; excellent written communication skills; an ability to engage with and influence external stakeholders; an ability to clearly and succinctly summarise complex policies and market reforms; and an interest in analysing data to present energy related findings and arguments. 

This role will require stakeholder management and engagement internally with diverse project teams comprised of engineering, finance, legal and other disciplines as well as externally with customers and government relationships.

What You’ll Do
  • Review state and federal energy policies, as well as energy market reforms, and clearly identify impact on Tesla business interests
  • Draft submissions for regulatory agencies, market bodies and state and federal governments
  • Develop thought leadership articles and white papers on energy policy best practice
  • Represent Tesla on industry working groups
  • Manage submission timelines and support with collating input from all parts of the business
