Job Description

This role involves the refurbishment of engines and related equipment for the rail, marine, and industrial sectors. Key responsibilities include ensuring health and safety, adhering to company policies, reporting safety concerns, and stripping and rebuilding engine components according to instructions. The role requires working with OEM manuals, interpreting specifications, verifying parts, liaising with other business units, and meeting strict deadlines. Additionally, the role involves completing documentation, disposing of waste correctly, mentoring trainees, and reporting any failures or faults. The candidate will be expected to work within a changing environment, meet deadlines, and be a team player.
Must have:
  • Ensure health and safety in the workplace.
  • Strip and rebuild engine mechanical components.
  • Read and interpret assembly specifications.
  • Verify part conformance using measuring instruments.
  • Adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Complete documentation to company standards.
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3/City & Guilds in motor repairs.
  • 5 years engine building experience.
Good to have:
  • Experience in rail or automotive industry.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
  • Diesel experience

Job Purpose

This role would involve the refurbishment of engines and similar equipment used in the rail, marine and industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities & Activities

  • Responsible for ensuring your own health and safety and that of others and promoting a positive health and safety culture within the workplace
  • Ensure all Health and safety obligations are met, and company policies are adhered to
  • Report any safety concerns, hazard observations, accidents and incidents by the end of that shift to allow full investigation and prevent re-occurrence
  • To be able to strip and re-build all the mechanical components of an engine, as per the work instruction.
  • To be able to work to OEM manuals.
  • To read and interpret assembly specifications and manuals, to plan assembly and build operations.
  • The ability to verify conformance of parts to stock lists, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
  • To liaise with other business units to get the task completed.
  • The ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
  • To accurately complete documentation to the Company’s standards
  • To ensure that waste is disposed of in the correct manner.
  • To mentor trainees / apprentices when applicable.
  • To report any near misses.
  • To comply with Company and statutory Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental and HR policies and procedures.
  • To report any failures / faults identified.

Job Requirements

  • Normal basic working hours are 40 hours per week.
  • Based at Barton, Burton Upon Trent

Background & Experience:

  • To be able to work within a changing environment, working to deadlines and short lead times.
  • The ability to work as part of team.
  • To take on any other reasonable responsibilities or tasks that are within the employee's skills and abilities.

Qualifications/Education Required:

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3/City & Guilds in motor repairs or equivalent
  • Relevant experience in rail or automotive industry
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Diesel experience essential
  • 5 years engine building experience required
