Specializing in both technically and creatively demanding projects, we have collaborated on renowned IPs like Halo, Dune, Mass Effect, and Baldur’s Gate. Our portfolio boasts over 60 titles, reflecting our commitment to quality and technical prowess. We're not just partners with industry giants such as BioWare/EA, 343/Microsoft, Funcom, Sega, and others; we're innovators in our field.

As an Engineering Manager you will be primarily focused on leading and mentoring a team of programmers, fostering a positive and productive work environment. You will provide guidance, support, and career development opportunities, ensuring that team members are motivated and equipped to excel. By nurturing talent and facilitating effective collaboration, you will help the team achieve technical excellence and deliver high-quality game features. Your role is crucial in maintaining team morale, resolving conflicts, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Responsibilities:

People Management:

  • Mentor and coach team members, managing career expectations, performance, and level of happiness.

  • Inspire and promote a culture of continuous learning and growth.

  • Challenge team processes, looking for ways to improve.

  • Guide others in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks.

  • Identify and resolve issues affecting team alignment, performance, and engagement, ensuring overall success and progress.

Strategy:

  • Work with the Engineering Director and other Engineering Managers to align on the overall strategy for current and upcoming projects, mitigating future potential risks.

  • Communicate strategic context to team members, ensuring alignment with goals.

  • Assess the potential impact and likelihood of risks.

  • Analyze current trends, market conditions, and business objectives/goals.

Collaboration:

  • Create and implement strategies for cross-functional collaboration at the organizational level.

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships across the organization.

  • Help identify and address cross-team dependencies and challenges.

  • Foster a collaborative environment and encourage open communication.

  • Resolve minor conflicts and align team efforts with shared goals.

Knowledge and Expertise

  • 1-2 years’ experience managing small to mid-sized technical teams.

  • Ability to understand technical problems and communicate potential solutions to the team.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience coaching and mentoring engineers, supporting them in their growth.

  • Understanding the value of clear communication, feedback, and collaborative support.

  • Experience recruiting and developing talent.

  • Strong conflict management skills.

Abstraction is a Dutch game development studio known for technically challenging projects and for providing support for AAA publishers for the last 16 years. We currently have 90+ employees based all over Europe with our HQ in Eindhoven, we are excited about the year ahead and are continuing our growth plan. We are currently working on our very own unannounced IP and have co-development partnerships with companies such as Bioware/EA, 343/Microsoft and more. 

We are privately owned, and the executive team has over 100 years of combined experience in the game industry.
