Job Description

The Engineering Manager will oversee all engineering activities within a department, including design, development, production, and testing. This role involves implementing and maintaining engineering objectives, resolving operational issues, leading the engineering team, and ensuring projects are on schedule and within budget. The Engineering Manager will also provide input for strategic decisions, potentially managing the budget and resolving escalated issues. This role requires at least 5 years of experience in a semiconductor wafer manufacturing environment and 3+ years of managerial experience. Additionally, the manager will direct manufacturing engineering resources, ensure process documentation, foster continuous improvement, and support overall Advanced Materials Group projects. The manager will also be responsible for business operations, managing the department budget and ensuring compliance with ISO9001 and ITAR standards, as well as human resources and administrative tasks.

Job Details

Basic Function of the Job

Manages all engineering activities within a department including design, development, and production and testing. Implements and maintains overall engineering objectives and initiatives. Confronts and solves performance/operational issues to improve efficiency and yields. Leads and develops the engineering team. Oversees a robust project management process and delivery timelines to keep projects on schedule and on budget. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.

Job Requirements    
Education:
  • BS in Engineering, Technology or similar disciplines.
 
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience providing engineering support in a semiconductor wafer manufacturing environment.
  • Prefer 3+ years of managerial experience.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others
  • Experience with problem analysis and resolution at the functional level
  • Proven track record of continuous improvement
  • Able to develop long-term plans, programs and goals, to evaluate work accomplishments and provide effective feedback
  • Experienced with Total Quality\Business Excellence and business process management

1)  Engineering Management 50%
  1. Direct manufacturing engineering resources for process development, tooling design and continuous improvement.
  2. Ensures process and tooling documentation, including, but not limited to, detailed work instructions, preventive maintenance plans, and in place and adhered to.
  3. A continuous improvement discipline is fostered such that product reliability, process yields and manufacturing costs constantly improving.
  4. Final versions of the equipment and/or processes developed are documented to the extent that another informed professional could reasonably understand, troubleshoot and modify the equipment/processes as needed.
  5. Development insights, information and experiences are constantly shared with other functions/activities to motivate technology innovation throughout the Advanced Materials business unit.
  6. Fosters technology transfer between engineering and manufacturing such that information flow is efficient and covers all aspects of manufacturing the process.
2)  Overall Advanced Materials Group Support 25%
  1. Oversees key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analysis. Plans documentation system.
  2. Selects correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement for existing ones.
  3. Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures
  4. Works with R&D,  manufacturing, operations and quality manager, reviews and monitors quality and process improvements and new product development.
  5. Provide investigation and analysis report to customer requests as applicable
  6. Manage SPC for all manufacturing tools and processes
     
     
3) Business Operations 15%
  1. Department budget is managed according to plan
  2. Department processes are reviewed/audited  for continuous improvement and cycle time reduction opportunities 
  3. Department processes are ISO9001 and ITAR compliant
  4. Objectives are achieved within budget and schedule
  5. All department records, reports and metrics are accurate and generated on time
  6. Company policy regarding ergonomically safe work environment and safety training is followed and supported
  7. A high standard of ethics, professionalism, leadership, competency, and quality is set
6)  Human Resources/ Administrative 10%
  1. The II-VI Employee Success and Growth Process is executed effectively and an ESGP is co-developed and in place with each employee.
  2. Performance feedback/reviews are conducted at a high quality level and on time.
  3. Support is provided for the development and coordination of training plans and materials to continuously improve employee skill sets and productivity.
  4. Hiring, reviewing, promoting, counseling and/or terminating personnel are conducted in a fair, equitable manner.
  5. Behavioral Interviewing process is utilized for the selection of all new hires.
  6. Responsible for maintaining a quality work environment housekeeping standards.
