Job Description

As an Engineering Manager on the ChromeOS kernel team, you will lead a team of experienced kernel engineers working to improve stability, maintainability, and performance in the ChromeOS and upstream Linux kernels. You'll collaborate with other kernel teams and leads on roadmaps, solutions, and shared goals. Responsibilities include managing a team of engineers, designing and implementing innovative solutions, partnering with other teams on kernel features, developing new technologies for optimization and debugging, and collaborating with Google's internal kernel teams and the upstream community to create universal and upstreamable solutions. This role requires significant experience in Linux kernel development, software architecture, and team management. The goal is to make a significant impact on ChromeOS, within Google, and the broader Linux community.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
5+ years Linux kernel development
5+ years managing software engineers
Expertise in data structures/algorithms
Software and hardware architecture knowledge

Good to have:

Master's or PhD in related field
Embedded OS experience
Open-source community contributions
Debugging and troubleshooting skills

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience with Linux kernel development, and software and hardware architecture.
5 years of experience managing other software engineers.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
5 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
Experience in Linux and other open-source community contributions and upstream.
Experience in debugging and troubleshooting skills in domains of Linux Kernel or Userspace.

Responsibilities

Manage a team of engineers working on all aspects of the Linux kernel for ChromeOS devices.
Design and implement innovative solutions to improve quality and stability of the kernel.
Partner with other teams in their use of specific kernel features (e.g. tool development for said features)
Develop new technologies to optimize and debug kernel and the system as a whole.
Collaborate with and support other kernel teams at Google, and with the upstream community to develop universal and upstreamable solutions.
