Netflix seeks an Engineering Manager to lead the development and operation of its in-house data clean room. This crucial role involves architecting and building a cloud-based system for handling massive datasets, creating APIs for real-time analytics, and ensuring secure data sharing with partners. Responsibilities include building a high-performing team, prioritizing projects, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders (technology, operations, business), and ensuring the clean room integrates seamlessly with identity graphs and audience onboarding systems. A strong understanding of data privacy, minimization techniques, and advertising technologies is essential. The successful candidate will have 10+ years of experience with 3+ years of management experience.

Our Team

The Ads Platform team at Netflix is dedicated to creating a world-class advertising ecosystem that drives our advertising business. This team's mission is to develop advanced technology that ensures exceptional experiences for both our members and advertisers. Our responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum of products, ranging from sales and media planning to optimizing advertiser outcomes and execution. This includes inventory and order management, campaign execution, ad serving, audience and identity management, measurement, reporting, and finance.

We use several Netflix investments and innovations - a unique mix of client and server-side ad insertions, state-of-the-art content delivery systems, ad encoding recipes, content understanding, and metadata, etc. We deliver ads in a manner that’s thoughtful of our member’s viewing experience and drive great outcomes for advertisers. We also ensure that advertiser brand safety is ensured during serving so that members only see the most appropriate ads for them.

Our team is faced with the enormous ambitions of building highly performant advertising systems and delivering high impact to our business by monetizing our incredible slate of content. We are seeking to build a core ads data infrastructure / clean room for our ads platform that spans across targeting, measurement, attribution, audience, and data onboarding while enabling privacy preserving data collaboration efforts with advertiser and agency partners.

We are looking for a people manager to join us on this journey, to lead some exciting initiatives, and the talented engineers who work on realizing our ambitious vision.

As an Engineering Manager you will:

Skills & experience we’re seeking:

  • Expertise in architecting, building and operating a cloud based data clean room capable of efficiently handling very large data sets. 

  • Experience in building APIs and services that leverage data technologies for real-time analytics and processing within a data clean room environment.

  • Ability to develop and maintain secure data sharing methodologies that prioritize privacy and data integrity. 

  • Experience in designing solutions with cloud interoperability i.e spanning across multiple cloud providers and regions.

  • Working knowledge of data minimization/anonymization/pseudonymization techniques, Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET), confidential computing, trusted infrastructure, privacy-preserving modeling and inference. 

  • Understanding of how data clean rooms integrate with identity graphs and audience onboarding systems.

  • 10+ years of total experience with 3+ years of management experience in building and leading diverse software engineering teams. 

  • A strong product mindset along with experience in delivering large complex projects collaborating with a variety of cross-functional stakeholders that are technology, operations or business focused.

  • General understanding of the advertising marketplace and landscape. 

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking with demonstrated product sense and leadership in the working environment

Nice to haves:

  • Familiarity with legal compliance and changing landscape of ads regulations around the world.

  • Familiarity with ML and advertising systems that leverage data to drive optimal outcomes for the users and the business.

  • Experience working in the CTV space and knowledge of its unique constraints

  • Awareness of ads industry technology standards (e.g.  VAST, OpenRTB) or worked on an industry consortium effort, working group etc.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $190,000 - $920,000.

We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
