Job Description

ByteDance is looking for an Engineering Manager - Machine Learning Infrastructure to lead the development and implementation of next-generation AI infrastructure for their recommendation platforms in ads, search, and live & ecom areas. Responsibilities include managing a team to design and build distributed inference, training, scheduling, orchestration, storage, and parameter server infrastructure. You'll also oversee the development of monitoring and management tools to ensure system reliability and scalability, identify and prioritize system inefficiencies, and collaborate with product teams to deliver tailored solutions.

Must have:

Experience leading engineering teams
Experience developing and deploying large-scale ML systems
Strong sense of responsibility and communication skills
Experience contributing to open-source ML frameworks (TensorFlow, JAX, PyTorch, MXNet, etc.)
Experience with big data frameworks (Spark, Hadoop, Flink)
Experience with resource management and task scheduling in distributed systems

Good to have:

Experience in Parameter Server system optimization or index structure optimization for search systems
Background in Hardware-Software Co-Design, High Performance Computing, ML Hardware Acceleration (GPU/RDMA), or ML for Systems

Currently, we are looking for Engineer Manager - Machine Learning Infrastructure to join our team to support and advance that mission. Responsibilities: - Lead the team to design and implement distributed inference/training/scheduling/ochestration/storage/parameter_server infrastructure for feeds, ads and search ranking models. - Oversee the development of monitoring and management tools to ensure the reliability and scalability of machine learning infra. - Manage the identification and prioritization of system inefficiencies and bottlenecks, leading efforts to enhance system performance. - Lead the team in creating tools to analyze bottlenecks and sources of instability, formulating and implementing effective solutions. - Collaborate with product teams, offering comprehensive solutions tailored to their specific requirements. Job requirements - Experience in leading an engineering team - Experience in developing and deploying large-scale machine learning systems. - Strong sense of responsibility and good at communication and teamwork - Passionate about solving complex and challenging problems

Qualifications

- Experience contributing to an open sourced machine learning framework (tensorflow / jax / pytorch / torchscript / mxnet / tensorrt). - Experience in big data frameworks (e.g., Spark/Hadoop/Flink), experience in resource management and task scheduling for large scale distributed systems. - Participated in Parameter Server system optimization, or index structure optimization for search systems. - Strong background in one of the following fields: Hardware-Software Co-Design, High Performance Computing, ML Hardware Acceleration (e.g., GPU/RDMA) or ML for Systems. 【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $210000 - $358000 annually.​
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.​
