Job Description

The Engineering Manager - Platform (Cloud Compute) role involves leading a team of 9 engineers, setting technical direction, driving operational excellence, and fostering sustainable engineering practices. The role also includes building relationships across platform and product teams, managing performance, mentoring engineers, and contributing to hiring. The Cloud Compute team manages Kubernetes infrastructure supporting over 180,000 pods and more than 10,000 nodes. The team empowers application developers with a secure, scalable, and flexible platform. This role requires a leader who embodies technical expertise and exceptional people management abilities.

What you’d be doing in this role

We seek a leader who embodies technical expertise and exceptional people management abilities, capable of navigating intricate technical landscapes while fostering the growth and development of team members’ careers.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Leading and supporting a team of 9 engineers across critical Kubernetes infrastructure
  • Setting technical direction for the Cloud Compute team and contributing to Canva’s broader platform strategy
  • Driving operational excellence while fostering a culture of sustainable engineering practices
  • Building strong relationships across platform and product teams
  • Managing performance, mentoring engineers, and unlocking growth opportunities
  • Helping Canva achieve infrastructure scale through multi-cloud and control plane initiatives
  • Contributing to hiring and building a diverse, inclusive team environment

You're probably a match if

  • You’ve led platform or infrastructure teams through complex, high-scale challenges
  • You bring strong Kubernetes and container orchestration knowledge as well as Golang (ideally) and Linux experience 
  • You’re passionate about developing people and building collaborative, high-performing teams
  • You know how to balance tactical reliability with long-term strategic investments
  • You communicate clearly across technical and non-technical audiences
  • You thrive in ambiguity, adapt quickly, and love solving foundational problems at scale

About the team

The Runtime Platform subgroup exists to empower application developers with a secure, scalable and flexible platform. The Cloud Compute team, at the heart of this mission, manages massive-scale Kubernetes infrastructure supporting over over 180,000 pods more than 10,000 nodes.
We’re a distributed team of senior engineers, passionate about making complex Linux-based systems accessible and reliable for all of Canva.
