- Support strategic technical needs internally and externally, per region or “theatre”, with strong cross-theatre alignment
- Act as the Voice of the Customer within Mimecast, ensuring customer priorities are integrated into product planning and GTM (go-to-market) strategies
- Build cross-industry relationships with both friendly and unfriendly vendors or competitors, analysts and thought leaders to represent and challenge cybersecurity thought leadership
- Bring to GRC/Legal and Products visibility regional legislation, policy discussions and regulatory changes as it impacts Mimecast’s GTM approach, strategy or as input into prioritization processes
The responsibilities of the Field CTO can be grouped into three key focus areas:
1. Product & Technology
Highlight, emphasize and provide context of customer needs with Mimecast’s product and engineering teams:
- Influence product roadmaps and/or prioritizations based on real-world customer feedback, competitive approaches and market trends.
- Act as a proxy for product leaders in strategic discussions and engagements.
Assess prevalent customer-driven technical opportunities and challenges to support product strategies:
- Validate minimum viable products (MVPs) with customers to avoid the gap between product MVP and customer MVP.
- Provide insights on product integration, innovation, and technical ecosystem partnerships.
Represent both the customer and Mimecast technical vision in cross-functional collaborations:
- Align product messaging with customer pain points, industry benchmarks and M&A activities.
2. Customer & Partner Engagement
- Build strong relationships with customer executives, such as CIOs, CTOs, CISOs to align Mimecast’s solutions with their long-term objectives. Act as a trusted advisor to customers in strategic discussions, including digital transformation and proactive identification of emerging trends.
- Support opportunities for technical closure by partnering with sales and GTM teams to find alignment (win/ save activities):
- Provide situational problem-solving and strategic product recommendations.
- Support high-revenue sales opportunities by offering technical insights and coaching sales engineers.
- Address negative customer experiences while maintaining long-term trust and satisfaction.
- Actively work with and engage technical partner leadership to both drive additional Mimecast revenue, but also to share competitive intelligence with Product in order to deliver more partner-friendly solutions.
3. Marketing & Thought Leadership
- Represent Mimecast at industry events, executive roundtables, and external customer-driven forums:
- Deliver keynote presentations, participate in panel discussions, and act as brand ambassadors.
- Publish thought leadership content such as blogs, articles, and white papers.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to refine product messaging and develop strategic enablement materials to include crisis management responses.
- Partner with GTM teams to enhance customer education and engagement:
- Host webinars, press events, and executive briefings to amplify Mimecast’s market presence, as needed
The Field CTO at Mimecast is a strategic and technical leader who plays a critical role in driving growth, enhancing customer relationships, and ensuring Mimecast remains at the forefront of the cybersecurity industry. By combining product expertise, CISO experience, customer empathy, and thought leadership, the FCTO helps to bridge the gap between Mimecast’s internal teams and its customers, ensuring a unified strategy for sustained success.
The base salary range for this position is $176,000 - $528,000 base + benefits. This reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. This position may also be eligible for incentive plans and other related benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. These factors and individual capabilities will also determine the individual pay offered.
