Position Overview

As a Senior Principal Cloud Cost Engineer at Autodesk, you will lead efforts to optimize cloud spend across multiple platforms and services. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including leadership, engineering, finance, and operations to develop and implement cost-saving measures, monitor cloud usage, and provide insights to guide strategic decisions. Your role will require a blend of technical expertise in cloud infrastructure, strong analytical skills, excellent communications skills, and the ability to influence and drive change within the organization. This position is on our Platform Strategy and Emerging Technologies (PSET) - Programs & Business Excellence (PBE) , reporting to the FinOps Engineering Manager, Analytics and Insights.
Prefer candidates to work hybrid/remote from our Toronto, Canada office.
Responsibilities
Identify, develop and lead strategic cost optimization initiatives; influence and engage senior leadership to drive sustainable change in cloud cost management practices
Socialize and drive adoption of cloud cost optimization techniques, resulting in measurable cost savings and increased cost avoidance
Develop and implement enterprise-wide standards, cost management strategies and best practices, enabling consistent and efficient adoption across teams
Analyze cloud usage, billing and pricing data to generate actionable insights and recommendations
Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure and operations teams to ensure efficient use of cloud resources
Partner with Finance to track cloud spending and usage, ensuring alignment with budget and forecast
Drive automation of cost reporting and optimization recommendations using tools such as Cloudability and Turbonomic
Evaluate and help implement FinOps tooling and platforms that scale visibility, tagging enforcement, and policy-driven optimization across cloud environments
Stay current with public cloud pricing models and FinOps trends; Provide cloud cost management guidance and mentorship to other team members and key stakeholders where relevant
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Finance, or related field; Master's degree preferred
Extensive experience in cloud infrastructure management (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) at larger scale (50+ accounts / $50M/year cost)
Proven individual impact implementing innovative solutions that reduced costs by more than $500k/year
Strong analytical skills with expertise in data analysis and financial modeling
Deep understanding of cloud architecture and services; highly skilled working in an AWS environment and leveraging its offerings such as EC2, S3, Lambda, Glue, Athena, SageMaker etc.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences with proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Development experience with Python and proficient with version control (Git/GitHub) and working in collaborative coding environments
Strong proficiency in SQL for data querying and manipulation
Publication record in top-tier FinOps or AI/ML conferences or journals
Proficient with A/B Testing methodologies
Strong knowledge base of MLOps practices for efficient model deployment and scaling
FinOps.org certification
