Ahoy, fellow miners! 👋

We’re on the hunt for a Game Artist Intern to join our team!

Who We Are:

Based in the heart of Copenhagen, Ghost Ship Games is a passionate, close-knit studio of 50 gamers. Guided by our “Co-op First” philosophy, we proudly created Deep Rock Galactic, one of Steam’s top 100 games, and we are supported by one of the friendliest player communities.

Please scroll down the page and use the links to learn more about us and our games.

Our Approach:

At Ghost Ship Games, we embrace a unique approach to creating game art, breaking away from traditional art pipelines. We prioritize speed, flexibility, and prototyping to elevate gameplay, believing that the best ideas come from rapid iteration. Collaboration is at the core of everything we do within our team and with our community.

What This Means for You:

We’re not looking for perfect, polished art pieces. Instead, we value experimentation, functional content, and openness to feedback. This means being comfortable with submitting work that’s still in progress, using feedback to make adjustments, and continuously improving to achieve the best possible results—while also having plenty of opportunities to learn from your colleagues.

Who You Are and What You Will Be Doing:

You are a student in the arts field, eligible to enroll in an internship lasting at least 4 months, with availability to work at least 25-30 hours per week or 3 days a week. You are a strong communicator with a keen interest in how games are made. You thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy tackling challenges, adapt quickly, and maintain a flexible approach.

Additionally, you:

  • Enjoy working with others but can also efficiently organize your own tasks.

  • Take feedback well and enjoy sharing your ideas.

  • Are comfortable switching between tasks, even if they are unfinished.

Skills & Software

While experience with the following programs isn’t required for the internship, it would be a plus:

  • 3D modeling software (Maya, Blender, 3ds Max, etc.).

  • Sculpting software (ZBrush).

  • 2D software (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).

  • Experience with Unreal Engine or similar tools.

Internship Overview

During your internship, you will be a part of the actual game production, working on assets that will most likely feature in the game. As part of your internship, you will participate in regular production cycle meetings and discussions. You’ll work closely with the Art team, exchanging ideas and insights. The Art Director of the game will act as your mentor and will have daily contact with you, as well as regular 1:1 meetings to check in and share feedback from both sides.

Examples of the tasks you will work on:

  • Modeling various assets for the game.

  • Iterating on models based on feedback from design, programming, and other team members to ensure the final assets meet both visual and technical standards.

  • Collaborating closely with the Art team to maintain consistent style and quality across all assets.

What We Offer:

  • Flexible hours.

  • WFH options.

  • Spacious office on Gothersgade.

  • Free lunch and plenty of social events.

  • A mentor throughout your internship.

Practical Information:

  • To be considered for this position, you must reside in Copenhagen or be within commuting distance, as we are unable to offer relocation. We will only consider candidates who are already based in or near the area

  • We expect your internship to begin around August/September 2025, with the earliest start date being August 15th.

  • This is an unpaid internship, offering a valuable learning opportunity, and network in the industry.

Application:

No cover letter is needed—just focus on your portfolio, application responses, and CV. 😊

If possible, please add to your portfolio artworks that you believe might align well with the art style of Deep Rock Galactic.

Review & Interviews:

Your application will be reviewed by the P&C and Art teams, followed by 2 interview rounds. The first round is a 30-minute chat with Art team members to assess your skills and fit with our workflow. The second round, lasting about an hour, will involve P&C, Art team and the Game Director, giving us a chance to get to know each other better. If needed, a third round may be scheduled for further clarification.

We welcome everyone to apply! Your unique background strengthens our crew.

About The Company

Ghost Ship Games, founded in 2016 by six industry veterans, is the creative force behind the dwarven mining universe of Deep Rock Galactic. We've also ventured into publishing with titles like Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, SpellRogue, DarkSwarm and Dinolords. Next up is our second original game, Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core.

We’ve got a crew of 43 aboard our ship, including designers, artists, programmers, QA & SoMe specialists, and administrative wizards. Our whole team works from our office in Copenhagen, Denmark. We know the best games get made when people have the space to have fun with their work, so we take a crunch-free approach to game development.

Our strategy centres on open development and close collaboration with our fan base. Since the studio opened, we’ve kept a simple motto: Co-op First. That principle applies just as much in the way we work together, as it does for the games we make.
