Game Design Director

CCP Games is seeking a Game Design Director for EVE Frontier, a groundbreaking open-economy, space survival MMO. This role demands a versatile leader capable of translating creative vision and product needs into concrete game design deliveries across a continuously evolving game landscape.

Your tasks

• Develop and oversee the entire game design pipeline, from product needs and creative vision through to implementation, ensuring alignment with the game’s ambitious vision.
• Mentor and lead a team of designers, promoting and supporting innovative and curious thinking and ensuring that skills development aligns with project needs.
• Work with the design team to curate and grow an intricate open, economy sandbox, where due to its single-shard foundation, every change will influence all aspects of the game environment and player interactions.
• Effectively manage staged deliveries throughout our production process by segmenting the overarching vision into valuable, actionable deliverables for players.
• Drive the creation of compelling player experiences, focusing on sci-fi fantasy fulfillment that engages and excites a diverse player base.

Your profile

• Must-have: A strong track record in game design leadership, demonstrated through a portfolio of successful projects—ideally within MMO, open-world, sandbox, or economy-driven games.
• Exceptional ability to adapt and innovate outside of a traditional AAA game development environment for a live service game.
• Be able to articulate the game design vision for different parts of the game through diverse mediums (decks, user stories, wiki pages, etc.).
• Ability to go from vision and strategy to tactics, by translating vision into tangible deliverables.
• Excellent communication and team management skills, capable of inspiring and leading teams through complex, long-term projects.
• Experience in creating immersive, engaging player experiences in a sci-fi setting, by having a touch for the holistic experience.
• Eagerness to work with the most intricate and advanced player-driven game economy in the world.
• Enthusiasm for science fiction, openness to understand what web3/blockchain can do for the player experience, and understanding of the up-and downside of in-house tech/engine/tools.
• Be a strong advocate for the design discipline at the studio, helping share, grow and increase the value of this important discipline.
