Job description

Framestore is an Oscar, Bafta, and Emmy award-winning global creative company working in film, episodic television, advertising, AR/MR/VR, theme park attractions, and pre/post visualisation work, among many other creative endeavours.

Framestore’s Immersive team works with creative IP owners and brands to elevate the impact of their imagined worlds. Projects span virtual, augmented and mixed realities, location-based entertainment, and theme park rides; a list that’s evolving fast. Using the strength and depth of our creative and technical resources, we’re ideally positioned to pioneer entertainment experiences of the future.

The Role

We are looking for FX artists (mid - senior) to join our London-based Immersive team, working on exciting Immersive projects bridging the gap between our VFX and Realtime workflows. The ideal candidate would have a portfolio that can demonstrate being able to create FX for pre-rendered and performant Realtime projects, with CG renditions of naturalistic physical or magical phenomena such as fire, water, clouds, smoke, physical destruction and particulate.

What you'll do:

  • Work alongside a team of FX TDs and Technical Artists to supply the FX elements for the project

  • Creating particle, rigid-body, fluid, cloth, fur and/or hair simulations or animations

  • Develop lighting/materials that work with the FX to produce the final rendered image or runtime content

  • Using a variety of commercial and proprietary FX tools including Houdini & Maya, for execution as realtime elements in Unreal Engine

  • Working in partnership with other departments to ensure that shots are delivered to the highest possible standard

  • Designing and creating images, elements, effects, pipelines, tools and techniques

Job requirements

Core Experience

  • Previous experience with Unreal Engine & Niagara

  • An excellent knowledge of Houdini

  • A thorough understanding of the techniques and technologies relating to simulated and procedural FX

  • Previous experience producing effects for environments such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam, destruction and explosions

  • A good understanding of animation

  • A good understanding of the entire visual effects process within Games, VFX or similar adjacent industry

  • A familiarity with pipeline issues, especially working between multiple packages

  • Strong understanding of flipbook animation and vertex animation.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge in other simulation packages, such as EmberGen

  • Experience with other render packages or realtime engines, such as Unity or 1st party

  • Familiartiy with UE Blueprints

  • Strong Vex, hscript, python and/or Mel scripting skills

Work Arrangements

At Framestore, we offer a flexible work arrangement where employees have the option to split their work time between home and office. While working from home for most of the week is feasible, attendance at team meetings held in our London office twice a week will be required so candidates should be able to commute easily when necessary. Please note this is a contract role for 12 months with potential for extension.
