Job Description

As a Gameplay Programmer at Epic Games, you'll experiment with game design, rapid prototyping, and ensure strong architectural and algorithmic decisions. You'll collaborate with art and design teams to iterate on gameplay features, prototype and refine functionalities, and provide critical feedback. Responsibilities include supporting Fortnite's technical excellence across platforms, developing new UEFN technology, optimizing and debugging gameplay systems, and contributing creative ideas to the game's development. The ideal candidate possesses 3+ years of professional game development experience, strong C++ skills, and a deep understanding of game design principles.
Must have:

  • Excellent communication
  • Console experience
  • Live service game experience
Good to have:
  • Experience with UEFN
  • Familiarity with other programming languages

What You'll Do

In this role, you will

  • Experiment with game design and use rapid prototyping while ensuring that strong architectural and algorithmic decisions are made
  • Work closely with art and design to create and iterate on gameplay features
  • Prototype and iterate on features and be willing to accept and respond to critical feedback
  • Support technical excellence of Fortnite on multiple platforms
  • Aid in the development of new technology within UEFN
  • Optimize and fix bugs in existing gameplay systems
  • Contribute ideas toward all aspects of the game’s production and development

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of experience developing games professionally, and shipping AAA titles
  • Strong C++ skills and the ability to code and architect gameplay mechanics and tools
  • Good ability to learn new programming languages
  • Well-versed in games and the ability to articulate what is strong/weak about the design of existing games (an interest in online games is preferred)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Console experience
  • Experience working on a live service game
  • Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and able to work independently
  • Creativity in problem-solving and the ability to think outside of the established solutions
  • Experience working with UEFN not required, but also helpful

This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including CA).

Pay Transparency Information

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).
