Yellow Brick Games is looking for a Gameplay Technical Designer to design, implement, and optimize gameplay features using Unreal Engine. The role involves working with AI, combat, and player features, collaborating with designers and programmers. The designer will also be responsible for creating tools and workflows, producing documentation, and proactively contributing to enhance gameplay. The role requires technical implementation using Unreal Engine Blueprints and the ability to work independently, identifying and implementing systems. The candidate will also be responsible for seamless integration of gameplay systems within the broader project vision.
Must have:
  • Experience as a Technical Designer on at least one shipped game.
  • Experience with AI, gameplay and animation systems.
  • Ability to design and implement scalable gameplay features.
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine Blueprints & Tools.
  • High degree of autonomy and task management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Good to have:
  • Knowledge about Unreal AI tools.
  • Hierarchical task network (HTN) experience.
  • Knowledge about Gameplay Ability System (GAS) of Unreal.

Yellow Brick Games is seeking a Gameplay Technical Designer with expertise in Unreal Engine to help bring our creative vision to life. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing robust gameplay features and their architecture from the ground up. As part of a smaller studio, we value autonomy, proactivity, and the ability to create and act on your own tasks to achieve exceptional gameplay experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Technical implementation of gameplay systems using Unreal Engine’s Blueprints. With a focus on AI, combat and player facing features in collaboration with designers and programmers.
  • Technical Competence & Autonomy: Work independently to identify, design, and implement systems with minimal supervision while proactively seeking ways to enhance the game’s quality and efficiency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with designers, programmers, and artists to ensure seamless integration of gameplay systems within the broader project vision.
  • Tool & Workflow Creation: Develop tools and workflows that empower designers and improve iteration speed.
  • Documentation: Produce detailed and clear technical documentation to support the development team’s understanding and maintenance of systems.
  • Proactive Contribution: Take initiative by proposing and developing innovative solutions to enhance the gameplay experience.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Technical Designer on at least one shipped AAA or high-quality indie game.
  • Experience with AI, gameplay and animation systems.
  • Strong ability to design and implement scalable gameplay features.
  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine Blueprints & Tools.
  • High degree of autonomy, with the ability to effectively create, manage, and complete your own tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge about Unreal AI tools.
  • Hierarchical task network (HTN) experience.
  • Knowledge about Gameplay Ability System (GAS) of Unreal.
