The Global Category Lead, Strategic Procurement role involves creating and implementing global sourcing strategies for Professional Services, HR, and External Workforce categories.   • Procurement experience across multiple categories, including leadership experience

  • Expertise in managing indirect/ services categories, particularly category strategy development

About the Role

Global Procurement is one of the Global Support Functions which form the common core of Haleon's operating model and drive Haleon's approach. Our contribution to the organization is critical.  We enable better buying that drives value for Haleon and the consumers we serve. Our operating model is designed to bring scale, expertise, and a business-first mindset through our global category, cross-BU, and strategy & delivery teams working together.
 

The Director for Professional Services, HR and External Workforce, will be responsible for global category management and sourcing activities related to their categories. You will lead the strategies across Haleon’s significant spend across these categories globally, and partner with a wide range of business and functional stakeholders as well as within Global Procurement. You will be responsible for performance of the procurement capability for this important segment of Haleon’s spend, and work to continuously improve it. The role will directly manage a large team and you will be a member of the Global Indirects leadership team.

In this role you will be responsible for the development and implementation of wide-ranging global category strategies within your area of spend, which will form the strategic foundation and direction of all regional category strategies and BU strategies. You will also lead the delivery of source to contract for these categories for Haleon’s corporate functions, and oversee the delivery of Haleon’s External Workforce (contingent labour) programme through a managed service provider. As the leader of this team, you will work closely with senior Haleon Business Leaders to ensure the global strategy accounts for regional and local market requirements while leveraging the global view and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and execution

  • Create comprehensive global sourcing strategies for the categories in scope of responsibility, operating with a truly global and strategic mindset and in close collaboration with the BUs and others in Global Procurement

  • Have a clear understanding of how global and regional strategies affect local markets and how global and regional strategies align

  • Ensure global strategies reflect Haleon’s sustainability and diversity objectives

  • Support the education & communication of the category to regional and BU procurement teams

Benefit delivery

  • Ensure team delivery of the strategies through effective and collaborative strategy execution

  • Partner closely with finance to set and deliver category financial objectives, at a quarterly, annual and 3-5 year level.

  • Ensure financial benefits are managed in accordance with the Procurement Plan and Savings Methodology

Business partnering & stakeholder management in Haleon

  • Influence key global and regional leaders to support strategy development, endorse recommended strategies, support execution and agree the procurement delivery plan

  • Ensure consistent strategic messaging from Haleon by coordinating Top to Top and QBR meetings with Executive Sponsors, the Global Head of Indirects and CPO

External supplier relationships

  • Lead senior supplier relationships to deliver competitive advantage. Design and implement governance, ensuring delivery and associated plan & KPIs, drive future innovative opportunities.

  • Ensure global and regional considerations are accounted for in supplier relationships

  • Champion the Partner for Growth (supplier relationship management) framework, with your team and suppliers.

Team and capability development

  • Line management of the Professional Services, HR and external workforce team

  • Provide leadership to the team and ensure that individuals are aligned to a common purpose and strategy

  • Support the capability development of colleagues across the function

  • Actively build the culture of the team and the function in line with the function’s priorities and objectives

Qualifications & Skills: 

  • Significant procurement experience across multiple categories, including leadership experience

  • Experience in Professional Services categories, specifically HR, Consulting and Legal

  • Excellent knowledge of Procurement tools such as sourcing, quotation analysis, contract negotiation, supplier review, supplier development and others

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing indirect/ services categories, particularly category strategy development and implementation, stakeholder management and supplier relationship management

  • In-depth understanding of external environment and supplier relationship models

  • Strong knowledge of finance (cost benchmark, financial audit with key suppliers) and legal matters (contracting)

  • Clear understanding of business value, business priorities, and potential implementation risks

  • Significant experience working in a matrix (global/ regional) business environment

  • Strong networking skills and a proven ability to build productive and collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders and business partners

  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to work in partnership with others to drive, implement and support change

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks across multiple projects using project management skills

  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communications, and influencing skills

  • Ability to work in high pressure environment, often under tight deadlines

  • Experience with risk management

  • Motivation for professional development and willingness to coach, mentor and train others
