As a Government Affairs and Public Policy Manager at Google, you will be a key advisor to the Cloud/Technical Infrastructure teams on all matters related to data center and network expansion. You will be responsible for supporting the development of policy positions, investment strategies, and negotiating positions, and for shaping initiatives to address key resource challenges relating to energy and water. You will also work with cross-functional colleagues to inform decision making on infrastructure investments and monitor and research current and relevant emerging public policy issues. This role requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in technology policy issues within government, think tanks, public interest groups, law, or relevant industry associations, as well as 10 years of experience in public affairs, political communications, or political campaigns, or within government.

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. In this role, you will be the primary Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) advisor to the Cloud/Technical Infrastructure teams on the full suite of issues related to data center and network expansion, including regulatory and policy challenges, water and energy issues, and local and national political issues.

You will be responsible for supporting the Cloud/Technical Infrastructure teams in advancing their infrastructure expansion plans, both in the United States and around the world. This includes through your support of the development of policy positions, investment, and negotiating positions, and in the shaping of initiatives to address key resource challenges relating to energy and water.

Google Client Services, an entity within the Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team, manages the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy in the United States. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspectives with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the Internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $182,000-$248,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Advise Cloud/Technical Infrastructure teams on public policy issues related to data center and network expansion (including regulatory and policy challenges, water and energy issues, and local and national political issues).
  • Support Cloud/Technical Infrastructure teams in operationalizing data center expansion strategy in the United States and globally.
  • Support the Cloud/Technical Infrastructure team in the development of policy positions, investment strategies and negotiating positions, and in initiatives to address energy and water challenges.
  • Work with cross-functional colleagues, including across Cloud/Technical Infrastructure Legal, Tax, Product and Go-to-Market, to inform decision making on infrastructure investments.
  • Monitor and research current and relevant emerging public policy issues considering how Google should work with allied organizations and industries and work with business-area leadership, Legal, Marketing, Trust and Safety, and PR to develop and launch policy-friendly products.
