We are looking for Groom Artists/Technical Directors to create hair, fur and/or feather grooms for characters and creatures in high end VFX film projects.
About the role
This is a existing role within our team. This role involves creating high-quality hair, fur, and feather grooms for characters and creatures using Framestore's proprietary grooming tools. The position requires close collaboration with Creature FX simulation TDs to ensure dynamic requirements are met and guide hair layouts are optimized. Additionally, the groom artist will work closely with other departments involved in the creature workflow, including Modelling, Rigging, Animation, and Lighting, to ensure seamless integration throughout the production pipeline.
What you’ll do
The creation of hair/fur/feather grooms for characters and creatures using Framestore's proprietary grooming tools
Close liaison with Creature FX simulation TDs over the requirements for dynamics, and the layout of guide hairs
Liaison with other departments involved in the creature workflow - Modelling, Rigging, Animation and Lighting
Previous experience in a similar role
Previous experience on CG creature projects
A thorough knowledge of Maya
Good problem solving skills
An appreciation of both the aesthetic and technical requirements of the role
A good eye for detail
A strong work ethic, and a willingness to be involved in both development and shot execution
The ability to work as part of a team in a challenging and deadline orientated environment
A good understanding of pipeline and workflow issues
Excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to liaise across departments
You might also have
Experience of working under a Unix/Linux systems environment
Experience with dynamic hair simulation, or other forms of dynamics
