Job Description

As a Grooming Artist, you will bring characters to life by creating their hair, fur, feathers, or other organic matter. You will create grooming systems in Houdini according to visual references and artistic intentions, adapting hairstyles and hairiness as needed. You will collaborate closely with modelers and texturing artists, maintain organized files and nodes, apply corrections, and provide renderings. You'll be part of a small team of asset specialists, working on projects with 5 to 30 3D artists, valuing commitment, mutual support, and direct communication. The role offers hybrid work flexibility and group health insurance.
Good To Have:
  • Grounding in shading/look dev and lighting.
  • Knowledge of Shotgrid and the VFX/CGI pipeline.
  • Familiarity with the Linux / Unix environment.
Must Have:
  • A degree in 3D animation or equivalent training.
  • Ability to analyze visual references and designs for hairiness.
  • Relevant experience in grooming or look dev (hair/fur).
  • Facility for working in Houdini (grooming toolset).
  • Autonomy in managing work and collaborating with departments.

As a grooming artist, you bring characters to life by creating their hair, fur, feathers or other organic matter. Stylish or realistic, complex or minimalist, your grooming is always meticulous and refined.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create grooming systems in Houdini according to visual references and artistic intentions;
  • Adapt hairstyles and hairiness according to styling constraints;
  • Collaborate closely with modelers and texturing artists to ensure smooth integration of grooming;
  • Maintain clear organization of files and nodes in Houdini, according to production standards;
  • Apply corrections requested by supervisors and/or director with critical sense and artistic rigor;
  • Provide renderings for validation and participate in asset reviews.

WE'D LIKE TO MEET YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • A degree in 3D animation or equivalent training;
  • A good ability to analyze visual references and designs as regards hairiness;
  • Relevant experience in grooming or look dev (hair/fur);
  • A facility for working in Houdini (grooming toolset);
  • A grounding in shading/look dev and lighting (an asset);
  • Autonomy in managing your work and a facility for collaborating with other departments;
  • Knowledge of Shotgrid and the VFX/CGI pipeline (an asset);
  • Familiarity with the Linux / Unix environment (an asset).

YOUR WORK TOOLS:

  • Rendering or previewing with Redshift
