Job Description

As a Level Designer at Amanotes, you'll design and implement engaging levels for hybrid-casual mobile music games. You'll collaborate with other designers and teams to ensure levels align with the game's vision and integrate music-driven mechanics. Responsibilities include prototyping, testing, documenting levels, collaborating on game design, researching industry trends, and improving player engagement metrics. Experience in level design for mobile games (at least one shipped title), a strong portfolio, and understanding of player progression and playtest data are essential. The ideal candidate possesses skills in level layout, pacing, rhythm-based gameplay integration, and clear communication.
Must have:
  • 2-4 years level design experience (mobile game)
  • Portfolio showcasing level design work
  • Balance challenge, accessibility, player progression
  • Interpret playtest data and adjust designs
  • Design levels for music games (plus)
  • Strong grasp of level layout, pacing, and player progression
  • Design levels integrating with rhythm-based gameplay
  • Understanding of hybrid-casual mobile game audiences

[GS team] Music Level Design (New Games - Hybrid Casual Games)

Design / Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

OBJECTIVES

  • As a Level Designer, you will create and refine levels that provide engaging and enjoyable experiences for players.You will collaborate with Senior Level Designers, Game Designers, and other departments to ensure that levels align with the game’s vision and effectively integrate music-driven mechanics. This role requires creativity, technical expertise, and a strong understanding of player behavior in mobile games.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Level Design Execution:
  • Design and implement fun, well-paced levels that resonate with hybrid-casual mobile music game players.
  • Ensure levels reflect the game’s rhythm-based mechanics and enhance player engagement.
  • Prototyping and Testing:
  • Build level prototypes to test ideas quickly and iterate based on playtest feedback.
  • Collaborate with QC and other team members to identify and address design issues.
  • Documentation and Communication:
  • Maintain detailed documentation for level designs, including layouts, and flowcharts.
  • Communicate level design updates and intentions effectively to the team.
  • Game Design Collaboration:
  • Work closely with Game Designers to integrate mechanics into levels seamlessly.
  • Incorporate music and gameplay elements cohesively to enhance the player experience.
  • Research and Innovation:
  • Study trends in mobile game-level design and analyze successful games for insights.
  • Learn and apply best practices for designing levels that align with the hybrid-casual genre.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in level design, with at least one shipped mobile game.
  • A portfolio showcasing your level design work.
  • Experience in balancing challenge, accessibility, and player progression.
  • Experience in interpreting playtest data and adjusting designs accordingly.
  • Experience in designing levels for music games is a strong plus.
  • Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong grasp of level layout, pacing, and player progression principles.
  • Ability to design levels that integrate seamlessly with rhythm-based gameplay.
  • Understanding of hybrid-casual mobile game audiences and preferences.
  • Clear and concise communication of level design ideas and updates.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address gameplay and technical challenges.
  • Good at Feedback Reception and Constructive Criticism.
  • Pay Attention to Detail and Precision.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and top-performing games.
  • Familiar with industry-standard game design tools (e.g., Google Sheets, Jira, Confluence, Figma, etc.).
