The Opportunity

Come join IGN as a Hardware Reviews Writer/Editor, supporting the wider IGN tech and commerce teams.     

      

Key Responsibilities     

This position’s day-to-day work is focused on producing hardware and tech product reviews and buying guides, as well as supporting content (news, how-to/explainers, etc) for those products. The ideal candidate for this role has a background in hardware and tech reviewing, specifically console and PC components and peripherals, smartphones/tablets, and/or displays, with experience as both a writer and editor.     

      

      

Responsibilities:     

         Personally review tech and hardware products.     

         Working with freelancers to commission, edit, and publish hardware reviews and buying guide updates.     

         Maintain knowledge of the gaming hardware landscape and write articles about new product announcements.     

         Producing new and updating existing Best Of Tech (buying guide) articles, prioritized from trending topics, in-house reviews,  and search-minded sources.     

         Maintaining a calendar of planned updates and product coverage, including news, how-to/explainers, and industry trends, working in close cooperation with the Tech Executive Editor to develop an effective tech features program.     

         Monitoring buying guide traffic and engagement metrics (CTR, Pageviews).     

         Researching, identifying and monitoring priority keywords and their organic ranking changes ongoing.     

         Using SEO data and competitor gap analysis to continually refine and improve article rankings (auditing user intent, headlines, linking and on-page optimization).      

         Occasionally travel to events (CES, Galaxy Unpacked, etc) and produce news and review coverage.     

         Filling in on traditional IGN Editorial coverage (News, Reviews, Previews, Features) and event coverage (PAX, Comic-Con, E3) on an ad-hoc basis.     

      

      

Job Qualifications

        A minimum of 3-5 years in hardware and technology journalism.     

        Specific experience as a tech/hardware critic and tester.     

        Expert knowledge of at least one of the following product categories: mobile devices (smartphones/tablets), displays (gaming monitor, TVs), gaming laptops, or gaming peripherals (headsets, controllers, mice, keyboards, etc).     

        Experience managing the work of others, including commissioning, budgeting, editing, CMSing, and publishing.      

        A strong mind for detail, process, and sorting through competing priorities.     

        Experience with project management tools like Trello, AirTable, Asana or equivalents.     

        Comfortable establishing relationships with vendors and attending events as needed.     

        Experience optimizing content with both search engines and search audiences in mind.     

        Experience with ecommerce and shopping-related content.     

        Proficient in using analytical tools such as Google Analytics or equivalents to make data-driven decisions.     

        High level of independent initiative, able to drive forward multiple concurrent projects.     

        Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with multiple teams.     

        Personal familiarity with current video games, comic books, and anime.     

        On camera experience, and/or familiarity with filming product b-roll/beauty shots is a bonus.     

        Previous experience with SEO optimization/SEM is a bonus.     

        Experience with graphic design and/or banner/asset creation is a bonus.     

        Basic knowledge of web development/rudimentary HTML is a bonus.

Salary Disclosure: Ziff Davis provides a range for the base pay. Factors that may be used to determine your actual pay may include your specific job related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The base pay for this position ranges from $70,000 to $75,000, plus incentive compensation (for eligible roles only), 401K with company match, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, short and long-term disability, and a flexible time off policy.
