Job Description

The Head of the Visual Arts Department will lead, manage, and inspire the department, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and artistic excellence. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of both the IGCSE and IBDP Visual Arts curricula and be passionate about developing students' creativity and skills. Key responsibilities include leading and managing the department, overseeing curriculum planning and implementation, teaching Visual Arts classes as needed, and managing department budget and resources. The candidate must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field, a teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent), and proven experience in teaching IGCSE and IBDP Visual Arts.

Must have:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field.
Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) with a focus on Visual Arts.
Proven experience in teaching IGCSE and IBDP Visual Arts.
Leadership or management experience within an educational setting is preferred.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

Lead and manage the Visual Arts Department, including mentoring and supporting teachers.

Oversee curriculum planning, development, and assessment in line with IGCSE and IBDP standards.

Ensure continuous professional development for department staff through workshops and training.

Curriculum Planning & Implementation

Design and implement a challenging and engaging curriculum for IGCSE and IBDP Visual Arts students.

Develop and oversee art exhibitions, projects, and events to showcase student work.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of curriculum changes and best practices in art education.

Monitor and assess student progress, providing guidance and support where necessary.

Teaching & Mentoring

Teach Visual Arts classes as needed, ensuring a high level of engagement and student-centered learning.

Guide and mentor students in the creation of their IGCSE and IBDP art portfolios.

Provide individual feedback and support to students to help them reach their full potential.

Administrative & Operational Duties

Manage the department budget and resources effectively, ensuring materials and equipment are maintained.

Coordinate with other academic departments and contribute to the broader academic community.

Ensure compliance with school policies, safeguarding, and health and safety regulations in the art studios.

Key Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field.

Teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) with a focus on Visual Arts.

Proven experience in teaching IGCSE and IBDP Visual Arts.
