Job Overview:
The Netezza DataStage Platform Support Engineer will play a key role in maintaining, optimizing, and supporting data integration and data warehousing platforms, primarily IBM Netezza and IBM DataStage. This position involves troubleshooting issues, performing platform maintenance, and ensuring the efficient operation of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes. The role also requires collaboration with development teams and data architects to support system infrastructure and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Platform Support: Oversee the daily operation of the IBM Netezza data warehouse and IBM DataStage ETL platform.
• Perform system health checks, backups, upgrades, and ensure the overall performance and availability of the platforms.
• Optimize DataStage jobs for performance and ensure data integration processes run smoothly.
• Design, develop, and maintain DataStage ETL jobs according to specifications.
• Review job designs and code created by other DataStage developers to ensure adherence to best practices and company standards.
• Monitor and troubleshoot ETL jobs, providing root cause analysis and issue resolution.
• Support production DataStage jobs and ensure accuracy and performance during execution.
• Write and optimize SQL queries for performance, especially in the context of Netezza.
• Provide deep expertise in SQL tuning and workload scheduling for Netezza.
• Ensure proper data ingestion flows and improve query performance as needed.
• Apply a deep understanding of data warehouse concepts and data model patterns such as snowflake, star schema, and OLTP.
• Work closely with the development team to ensure data models support business requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the data integration and platform infrastructure.
• Assist project leaders with timeframes, objectives, and troubleshooting for ongoing data loads.
• Document all developed ETL jobs and platform processes.
• Ensure platform security, compliance with data governance policies, and adherence to industry standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Experience: 5+ years in software services, with 3+ years of experience implementing solutions on IBM Netezza. Proven experience in DataStage ETL development and production support.
• Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of IBM Netezza architecture, tools, and metadata tables. Expertise in writing and tuning SQL queries for performance, especially for large data sets. Understanding of workload scheduling, data ingestion flows, and Netezza SQL optimization techniques.
• Data Concepts: Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, data warehouse architectures, and patterns like snowflake and star schema.
• Communication & Collaboration: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams. Experience working in collaborative environments with development teams, DBAs, and data architects.
