The Industrial Controls Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers maintaining, implementing, and innovating industrial control systems (ICS-BAS/EPMS) within Microsoft's data centers. Responsibilities encompass ensuring system availability, data quality, reporting, and security. This role requires collaboration with IT and Critical Environments experts across Microsoft's global infrastructure. The manager will oversee site-level ICS programs, projects, and global initiatives, managing both logical and physical access to ICS systems. A focus on safety and security within CO+I's safety programs and policies is essential. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in managing cross-functional teams and industrial control systems within data center infrastructure.

As a CE Instrumentation Engineer Manager, you will manage a team of exceptionally skilled engineers tasked with maintaining, implementing, and driving innovations in industrial controls. This also includes ensuring the availability, data quality, reporting, and security of all Industrial Control Systems (ICS-BAS/EPMS) within the Data Centers. This opportunity will allow you to collaborate with a diverse group of industry experts across Information Technology (IT) and Critical Environments (CE) domains within Microsoft's mission-critical 24x7x365 data centers.

As a CE Instrumentation Engineer Manager, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND extensive technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering
    • OR equivalent experience

While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering or related field AND  technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering  
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience building and leading an Industrial Controls Engineering team for Data Center Infrastructure.  
  • A few years of people management experience, particularly managing a global Industrial Controls System teams 
  • Extensive experience in managing cross-functional, cross-organizational team projects 

 

Background Check Requirements: 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of highly qualified engineers to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performance solutions, while fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Utilize telemetry analytics to drive informed decision-making, proactively identifying and addressing issues to optimize system availability and performance.
  • Maintaining Industrial Control Systems (ICS-BAS/EPMS) availability, data quality, service and change management, reporting, and the security of all ICS systems in the Data Centers.
  • Site level ICS program and project management, and both govern and directly participate in the execution of global initiatives related to ICS systems.
  • Managing, servicing, and governing Microsoft’s electrical and mechanical industrial control systems (ICS) to include servers, applications, networks, and device infrastructure deployed within Microsoft’s 24x7x365 mission-critical datacenters.
  • Governing logical and physical access, approval, and permissions related to all ICS systems, networks, workstations, and servers that provide datacenter monitoring and controls. 
  • Empowering a culture of safety and security in global datacenter operations by complying with CO+I’s safety programs and policies and completing compliance knowledge assessments.
