Intermediate Artists will demonstrate proficiency in ToonBoom Harmony, creating high-quality FX, managing file conventions, collaborating with other departments, and executing complex animations. Senior Artists will showcase advanced Harmony skills, develop reusable FX setups, mentor junior artists, and handle the most challenging shots. Both roles require strong animation principles understanding, efficient workflow, and adherence to quality standards. Responsibilities include collaborating with directors, creating reusable assets, and ensuring timely delivery.

Intermediate 2D FX Artist

 

Job Overview:

 

     As an Intermediate 2D FX Artist, you will demonstrate proficiency in completing various 2D FX tasks in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring they meet the project's quality standards and align accurately with task descriptions. You'll manage file naming and conventions to fit the project's requirements, avoiding issues with data delivery scripts. Taking charge of collaborative efforts with other departments, you'll ensure assigned tasks are completed promptly. Additionally, you'll showcase your ability to efficiently complete complex 2D FX animations, meeting exact descriptions or callouts. Working closely with show and art directors, you'll execute key effects, contributing to the project's overall creative vision. Moreover, you'll create reusable 2D FX setups or templates for other artists, facilitating the quick completion of shots with a consistent look.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Demonstrate proficiency in completing various 2D FX in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ensure 2D FX meets the quality bar of the project and accurately aligns with the given task description, requiring little or no direct guidance.
  • Manage file naming and conventions to fit the project, avoiding issues with data delivery scripts.
  • Take charge of following up on collaborative effects involving other departments, ensuring assigned tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete complex 2D FX tasks efficiently, meeting the exact description of the task or callout.
  • Work directly with show and art directors to execute key effects, contributing to the overall creative vision of the project.
  • Create reusable 2D FX setups or templates for use by other artists, facilitating the quick completion of an entire series of shots with a consistent look.
  • Assist in off-pipe rendering tasks if needed and ensure that all elements are correct and labelled accurately.

Skills and Experience:

 

  • Strong understanding of animation principles and the ability to create high-quality effects efficiently.
  • Solid experience using ToonBoom Harmony for FX animation, including working with its tools and features.
  • Ability to accurately match FX to task descriptions and maintain quality standards with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of file naming conventions and data structure to ensure seamless pipeline integration.
  • Ability to work effectively with other departments, following up on collaborative FX tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks and delivering FX in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical or artistic challenges related to FX animation and asset management.
  • Previous experience executing key FX that contribute to the overall creative vision of a project.
  • Ability to develop templates or preset FX to maintain a consistent look across multiple shots.
  • Understanding of rendering processes and best practices for ensuring FX elements are labeled and set up correctly.

 

Senior 2D FX Artist

     As a Senior 2D FX Artist, you will demonstrate advanced proficiency in ToonBoom Harmony, using its features to create high-quality 2D FX effects. You'll execute diverse 2D FX tasks with precision and creativity, maintaining the highest quality standards for each project. Developing and implementing reusable 2D FX setups or templates, you'll streamline workflows and provide valuable tools for other artists to achieve a consistent look. You'll take responsibility for completing the most challenging shots on the team and collaborate to ensure timely delivery of all shots. Additionally, you'll offer mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate artists, nurturing their growth within the team.


Key Responsibilities

 

  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in ToonBoon Harmony, utilizing its features to achieve high-quality 2D FX effects.
  • Execute a diverse range of 2D FX tasks with precision and creativity, ensuring the highest quality standards for each project.
  • Develop and implement reusable 2D FX setups or templates, streamlining workflows and providing valuable tools for other artists to achieve a consistent look.
  • Be responsible for completing the most challenging shots on the team.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure all shots are delivered on time.
  • Offer mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate artists, fostering their growth and development within the team.
  • Support in the development of 2D animated graphics and character elements when requested.  
  • Assist in off-pipe rendering tasks if needed for and ensure that all elements are set up and labeled accurately. 

Skills and Experience:

 

  • Extensive experience utilizing Harmony’s features to create high-quality 2D FX, ensuring efficiency and precision.
  • Deep understanding of animation principles, FX design, timing, and motion to create visually appealing and dynamic FX.
  • Ability to take on and complete the most technically demanding and high-profile shots with minimal supervision.
  • Experience developing and implementing reusable 2D FX setups or templates to streamline production and maintain consistency.
  • Strong ability to work with directors, supervisors, and other departments to ensure FX align with the creative vision and technical requirements.
  • Proven experience mentoring and guiding junior and intermediate artists, providing feedback, and fostering skill development within the team.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively, ensuring all shots are delivered on schedule without compromising quality.
  • Strong organizational skills to ensure assets, FX setups, and off-pipe renders are labeled and structured correctly for seamless pipeline integration.

The wage range for this role reflects compensation across all of ICON’s projects. The final salary will be determined based on the specific position, the current show assignment, and the applicant’s experience and portfolio. This range accounts for varying levels of experience and responsibilities.
