Next Level Games is seeking a Junior VFX Artist to join their team. The role involves collaborating with Art Directors, VFX Leads, and Game Designers to create effects that align with the project's art vision and support gameplay. Responsibilities include creating VFX assets using in-house engine and tools, improving pipeline and techniques, maintaining strong communication, balancing quality and efficiency, and troubleshooting art problems with technical artists and programmers. The position is hybrid, requiring at least three days per week in the Vancouver studio.
Must have:
  • Demonstrated experience as a VFX Artist
  • Portfolio of real-time FX artwork
  • Proficient understanding of particle systems
  • Experience with authoring materials/shaders
  • Ability to create models/textures for VFX
  • Experience with simulations
  • Good understanding of animation and timing
  • Strong team player
Good to have:
  • Experience with 2D Effects and Motion Graphics

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING: 
We are looking for an Junior VFX Artist to join our team at Next Level Games. As an Junior VFX Artist joining the VFX team at NLG, you will:  
 

  • Collaborate with the Art Director, VFX Lead and Game Designers to create effects that fulfill the art vision for the project 
  • Work with Game Designers to support gameplay via effects 
  • Work with Presentation team to create cinematic effects 
  • Create VFX assets using our in-house engine and tools 
  • Bring new ideas, unique solutions and help improve pipeline, process and techniques  
  • Keep a strong communication channel with team members 
  • Balance quality and efficiency of effects based on project limitations 
  • Troubleshoot and provide solutions to art problems by collaborating with technical artists and programmers 

Please note this is a hybrid position, requiring at least three days per week at our Vancouver studio. 

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR: 
  • Demonstrated experience working as a VFX Artist 
  • Include Portfolio demonstrating strong real-time FX artwork and ability 
  • Proficient understanding of particle systems 
  • Experience with authoring materials/shaders (Unreal/ Unity)  
  • Ability to create models/uvmap/textures for VFX using (Maya/Blender/Photoshop/Substance)  
  • Experience with simulations (rigid body, fluid, smoke, fire, etc)  
  • Good understanding of animation and timing  
  • Excel as a team player and strive to maximize team/department performance 
  • Experience with 2D Effects and Motion Graphics is a plus 
  • Experience with procedural modeling is a plus (Houdini, Blender)

The hiring range for this position is $57,000 - $72,000 CAD annually and is subject to change. The final base salary compensation will be based on factors such as skills, education, and experience.
