Job Description

As a Lead Creatures Designer based in Manchester, you will lead the team responsible for bringing life to Star Citizen’s universe through believable, dynamic, and challenging creatures. You’ll own the creature design pipeline from concept to release, collaborating with Art, Animation, Design, and Engineering teams to craft immersive and cohesive creature experiences. Founded in 2012, Cloud Imperium Games creates cutting-edge videogames that defy expectations, developing Star Citizen and Squadron 42.
Must have:
  • Lead the Creature Design team, owning creatures from concept to release.
  • Collaborate closely with Art, Animation, Design, and Engineering teams to deliver immersive and cohesive creature experiences.
  • Design and implement creature systems, including AI behaviors, combat mechanics, and encounters.
  • Drive technical implementation through scripting and hands-on collaboration with Engineering.
  • Champion and evolve creature pipelines and workflows, identifying and addressing process improvements.
  • Foster a creative and inclusive team environment, providing mentorship and guidance to team members.
  • Previous leadership experience within Creature, Enemy, Encounter, or Systems Design teams.
  • Proven track record on shipped or maintained open-world, multiplayer, or live-ops games.
  • Strong technical expertise in scripting and gameplay systems implementation.
  • Deep understanding of creature roles in open-world sandbox gameplay.
  • Passion for building immersive worlds through dynamic and engaging creatures.

What does a Lead Creatures Designer at CIG do?

  • Lead the Creature Design team, owning creatures from concept to release.
