Job Description

The Lead Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for the design, coding, and testing of embedded applications for locomotive systems. The role involves performing design reviews, developing and releasing software according to Wabtec's software processes, and writing test plans. The engineer will also resolve software issues, perform root cause analysis, and provide solutions. They will collaborate with various engineering teams and act as a technical lead, including project-level estimation and scheduling. Mentoring junior team members is also part of the role. Must have:
  • Bachelor's in Electrical/Computer Engineering
  • 5+ years of relevant software development experience
  • 3+ years as an Embedded Software Engineer
  • Hands-on experience in C/C++, Python, Shell scripting
Good to have:
  • Experience with Device Driver, Hardware software interface development on RTOS or Linux
  • Some knowledge of Matlab/Simulink
  • Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall development methodologies
  • Experience with Xilinx, ARM, PPC, Intel, K60 processors
  • Exposure to Serial, Arcnet and Ethernet communications standards

Role Summary:

Lead Embedded Software Engineer is responsible for design, coding and testing of locomotive system embedded applications. This role will perform design reviews, develop and release software following Wabtec software process and guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, test and release software, ensuring quality specifications are met

  • Document software design and write test plans.

  • Resolve software issues, perform root cause analysis, and provide solutions

  • Perform design and code reviews in accordance with applicable standards and guidelines

  • Work cross-functionally with systems engineering, product management, simulation, verification, validation, and electronic hardware teams

  • Act as technical lead for assigned projects, including project level estimates and scheduling

  • Mentor junior team members assigned to your project teams.

  • Ability to break down problems and estimate time for development tasks

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Electrical/Computer Engineering

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in software development.

  • 3+ years of experience as an Embedded Software Engineer

  • Hands on experience in C/C++, Python, Shell scripting,

  • Design and development experience with at least one embedded and real-time software systems (Linux, QNX, RTOS, MQX, Greenhill, Mentor Nucleus)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Device Driver, Hardware software interface development on RTOS or Linux platform including FPGA based peripheral interfaces

  • Some knowledge of Matlab/Simulink

  • Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall development methodologies.

  • Experience with one of the following processors - Xilinx, ARM, PPC, Intel, K60

  • Exposure to Serial, Arcnet and Ethernet based communications standards
