Lead Game Developer / Engineer - Social Gaming

Location: you can either work remotely or in the company's office in San Jose.


Engineers at the company work an average of roughly 45 hours/week; it is not a sweat shop like stereotypical gaming companies, but it is not a 9-5 job either.


The company is founded by industry leaders in the gaming space who previously created one of the largest online gaming platforms in the world. The company’s product focuses on community, chat / text messaging, and social gaming. The product is for mobile only now and is in the process of expanding to a desktop product that will be on equal footing with the mobile products.


The company raised a seed round of funding in 2016 and now has 6 years of runway. Revenues have been growing rapidly even during the recession. The company has about 50 employees and 38 engineers.


The company will pay very competitive salary; they are targeting a base salary of $180-250k, plus yearly bonuses, plus equity which could be very valuable.



Job Responsibilities:


- Adapting classic multiplayer games that are already popular rather than inventing a new indie game.


- Working as a solo developer, developing and implementing web-based games using TypeScript and a custom WebGL-based game engine.


- Designing and polishing game elements to enhance aesthetics, including animations, visual flair, and shaders.


- Building user-friendly interfaces specifically tailored for casual games like chess and checkers.


- Utilizing undertanding of UX to ensure engaging and intuitive user gameplay.



Qualifications:


- Strong in one of these, in order of preference: 1) TypeScript or HTML5, 2) WebGL, 3) ThreeJS, 4) Phaser or Cocos.


- Experience as the primary engineer for a well-polished, web-based game.


- Ability to polish a UI/UX with minimal/no guidance.


- Ability to work with a custom game engine based on WebGL.


- Ability to work independently.


- Expertise in creating intuitive user interfaces tailored to casual gaming experiences.
