Guardian is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to shape critical customer-facing digital experiences. This role requires extensive hands-on technical experience in building scalable, performant web applications within a modern cloud environment. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, product, UI/UX, business leaders, and data specialists to deliver best-in-class customer experiences. Responsibilities include innovating, modernizing, and creating technical solutions for complex business problems, working collaboratively with technical and non-technical teams, and understanding business goals to create effective solutions. The ideal candidate will launch products they can be proud of.
Must have:
  • 6+ years leading engineering teams
  • Deliver resilient, performant customer web experiences
  • Proficient in Javascript/Typescript (Node/React/Next/NestJS/Jest)
  • API development best practices (REST/GraphQL)
  • Web fundamentals (vanilla JS, HTML, CSS, web core vitals)
  • Agile development experience
  • Modern web app development (build tools, testing, CI/CD, AWS)
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of security best practices (OWASP, PII)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • BA/BS in computer science or relevant experience

Overview

In this role, you will shape Guardian’s most critical customer-facing digital experiences. This position requires extensive hands-on technical experience building scalable, performant web applications in a modern cloud environment, working collaboratively with engineers, product, UI/UX, business leaders and data to create best-in-class experiences for our customers.

What you bring to the table:  

  • 6+ years of experience leading engineering teams, delivering resilient, highly performant, public-facing customer web experiences that have had demonstrative business impact
  • Highly proficient in Javascript/Typescript (Node/React/Next/NestJS/Jest)
  • Extensive experience in API development best practices (REST/GraphQL) and integration with third-party systems
  • Experience with Redis, micro-frontends and micro-services desirable
  • Mastery of web fundamentals, including vanilla Javascript, HTML, CSS, and web core vitals performance tuning
  • Experience developing complex applications in an Agile environment as part of a team of engineers, designers, product experts, marketers, and strategists  
  • Experience with modern web application development, including build tools, testing, CI/CD and AWS
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of security best practices, e.g.: OWASP, dealing with PII data
  • Excitement, energy, and strong people skills including excellent written and verbal communication
  • BA/BS degree in computer science or relevant work experience 

Location:

  • Three days a week at a Guardian location in New York, NY, Holmdel, NJ or Bethlehem, PA.

Salary Range:

$116,350.00 - $191,155.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
