Job Description

As a Lead SPDM Application Engineer - Customer Solutions Engineer, you will join the Ansys Customer Excellence team to partner with customers, solve engineering problems, deploy Ansys software, and grow business. You will act as a subject matter, industry, and Ansys SPDM solutions expert, providing technical pre-sales support and professional services. Your role involves consulting on simulation data and process management, deploying solutions within customer workflows, and guiding the Ansys product roadmap based on customer needs. You will mentor junior engineers and work with project teams to create pervasive solutions focused on the Ansys Simulation Data and Process Management platform.
Must have:
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering software environment
  • Subject matter expert in Ansys' business areas
  • Experience with simulation software (Ansys or other)
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering practices and product development
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Logical problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 25%
Good to have:
  • BS+12, MS+10, or PhD+7 years of experience
  • 4 years in application engineering, customer support, or consulting
  • Ability to interact with senior business managers and executives
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 50%
  • Experience with relevant Ansys software or other CAE, CAD, PLM software
  • Knowledge of enterprise product development systems (SLM, SPDM, ERP, PLM, etc.)

Summary / Role Purpose  

Join the Ansys Customer Excellence team to partner with our customers to engineer what's ahead, solve their real-world engineering problems, deploy Ansys software in their design workflows, and grow Ansys’ business. As a subject matter, industry and Ansys SPDM solutions expert, you will use engineering and business knowledge to provide technical pre-sales support, perform professional services, and help guide Ansys product roadmap based on customer requirements. You will consult with customers on data management solutions for simulation-based activities in support of their key business initiatives, work with, and often lead project teams to create pervasive solutions and mentor junior engineers.  This role will focus primarily on the Simulation Data and Process Management platform from Ansys. 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Lead in coordinating and executing all technical activities throughout the sales opportunity lifecycle such as technical discovery, negotiating technical success criteria, product presentations, demonstrations, and evaluations. Work independently within multi-disciplinary teams 

  • Help guide sales engagements to successful outcomes using subject matter expertise and industry best practice knowledge 

  • Interact with customers to understand their key business initiatives, product design needs and engineering design workflows; analyze how to address customers’ requirements using Ansys products and platform, articulate Ansys’ value proposition to Executive level audiences 

  • Lead project teams to create differentiating simulation solutions using the Ansys platform and products; deploy the solutions within customers’ design workflows 

  • Mentor and train customers in the best practice usage of SPDM according to their industry use cases, and be an advisor to their journey in digital engineering 

  • Work within the Ansys SPDM platform to create configurations to best match customer business processes, application support requirements, and enterprise integration aspirations 

  • Collaborate with the Ansys product development teams to guide Ansys product roadmap; lead project teams testing new releases of Ansys products on industrial problems, develop application best practices 

  • Participate in corporate initiatives to further enhance Ansys technology, processes and people skills 

  • Support Ansys field and digital marketing, author conference presentations 

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience 

  • Required education and degree type: BS or MS or PhD in Mechanical/Chemical/Aerospace/Electrical Engineering or related field 

  • Required minimum years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: BS+8, MS+6, or PhD+3 

  • Subject matter expert in one or more relevant disciplines within Ansys’ business and is/will be sought out for advice by other Ansys engineers 

  • Has experience with simulation software, Ansys or other, for pre-processing, solving, and post-processing 

  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering practices and product development, experience with building solutions using simulation technology and deploying those solutions within customers’ engineering workflows 

  • Best practice knowledge of positioning and implementing configurations based on no-code, low-code and script-based coding solutions 

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills 

  • Logical problem-solving, strong interpersonal and communication skills, fluent in writing and speaking English 

  • Familiarity with how to approach configuration problem solving involving software and its communication capabilities to other software and platforms 

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects which are complex in nature, possesses a sense of urgency 

  • Projects a professional image and demonstrates business acumen, driven to succeed 

  • Ability to travel domestically up to 25% of time 

  • Proven track record of analyzing customer’s business and technical needs, requirements, and their state of current infrastructure, operations, and simulation & other engineering workflows 

  • Proven track record of implementing enterprise solutions consisting of various (COTS software) components and leading corresponding customer deployments 

  • Experience in consulting customers on business process design and optimization 

  • Self-starter who possesses a sense of urgency, strong organizational and follow up skills 

  • Willing to evolve in a dynamic and innovative environment, eager to learn 

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills 

  • Preferred education and years of professional experience in an engineering software environment: BS+12, MS+10, or PhD+7 

  • 4 years of experience in application engineering, customer support, or consulting services type customer facing roles using engineering software  

  • Ability to interact effectively with senior business managers and C-level executives 

  • Ability to travel domestically up to 50% of time 

  • Demonstrated use of relevant Ansys software or knowledge of other commercial CAE, CAD, EDA, PLM software packages 

  • Good understanding of enterprise class product development systems like SLM, SPDM, ERP, ALM, TDM, MIM/IMM, PDM, PLM, MBSE (e.g. Aras Innovator, Siemens Teamcenter, Dassault ENOVIA or 3DEXPERIENCE, MSc SimManager, MSc MaterialCenter) 

  • Basic understanding of programming languages such as: python, C# (.NET), Javascript, HTML. 

  • Able to pick up new tools and learn their API’s to produce configurations that can be supported in an enterprise tool. 

  • Experience with DevOps/continuous integration and deployment 

  • Practical knowledge of agility and agile project management 

  • 3+ Years of experience using Granta MI Enterprise from in an Administrative or Developer role.
