Job Description

As a Level Designer at AGBO, you'll craft engaging player-centric spaces blending gameplay mechanics with environmental storytelling. Responsibilities include designing levels and test maps focusing on pacing, traversal, combat, strategy, and exploration. You'll collaborate with design, art, and engineering teams to build a rich, immersive world. This hands-on role requires implementing environment art assets, working with systems design and engineering to support gameplay scenarios, contributing to worldbuilding and modular design, and defining level metrics and player guidance. Experience with strategy, narrative, or exploration-driven games is essential.
Must have:
  • 3+ years experience in level design/environment art
  • Strong worldbuilding instincts and player-centric thinking
  • Sharp eye for layout, player flow, and spatial readability
  • Collaboration and cross-disciplinary work
  • Design and build levels and test maps
Good to have:
  • Experience with isometric titles, RPGs, or Metroid-Vania games
  • Experience with Godot engine
  • Interest in film, cross-medium storytelling, and experimental gameplay
  • Live service game support experience
  • Leadership or mentorship experience

Position Summary:
As a Level Designer, you’ll be responsible for crafting engaging, player-centric spaces that blend gameplay mechanics with environmental storytelling. You’ll design levels and test maps that explore everything from pacing and traversal to combat, strategy, and exploration. Working alongside design, art, and engineering, you’ll be instrumental in building a world that feels alive and rich with gameplay opportunity. This is a hands-on, high-impact role on an ambitious team creating something special and exciting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build levels and test maps to explore gameplay mechanics, pacing, and player experience.
  • Implement environment art assets into levels with a focus on composition, readability, and visual storytelling.
  • Work closely with systems design and engineering to support gameplay scenarios, balancing creative goals with content and technical constraints.
  • Contribute to worldbuilding, spatial planning, and modular design pipelines.
  • Help define level metrics, player guidance flows, and gameplay rhythms through your environments.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in level design and/or environment art, ideally with hybrid contributions across both.
  • Strong instincts for worldbuilding, gameplay space design, and player-centric thinking.
  • A sharp eye for layout, player flow, and spatial readability - especially in 2D top-down or isometric environments.
  • Collaborative and open-minded with a strong ability to work across disciplines.
  • Experience with strategy, narrative, or exploration-driven games.
  • Comfortable adapting to new/custom tools and providing thoughtful feedback based on past workflows.
  • Experience supporting or growing a live service game.
  • Leadership or mentorship experience in an art or design role is a bonus.
  • Previous experience doing level design for isometric titles, RPGs, or Metroid-Vania games is a bonus.
  • Experience with the Godot engine is a bonus.
  • An interest in film, cross-medium storytelling and worldbuilding, or experimental gameplay is a bonus.
