Job Description

Funcom is seeking a passionate Lighting Artist Intern to join their creative team. As a Lighting Intern, you will collaborate with artists, designers, and developers to bring immersive game worlds to life. This hands-on opportunity involves learning industry workflows, improving skills, and contributing to exciting projects. The role requires assisting in setting up and refining in-game lighting, working within Unreal Engine, supporting lighting optimization, and participating in critiques. Good To Have:
  • Familiarity with real-time lighting techniques and optimization
  • Knowledge of cinematography or photography
  • Interest in games developed by Funcom or similar genres
Must Have:
  • A strong eye for light, color, and composition
  • Basic experience with a game engine (Unreal Engine preferred)
  • Portfolio demonstrating lighting in 3D scenes
  • Eagerness to learn and take feedback
  • Current student or recent graduate in a related field

Your Mission in Funcom

Funcom is looking for a passionate and motivated Lighting Artist Intern to join our creative team. As a Lighting Intern, you’ll collaborate with artists, designers, and developers to help bring immersive and atmospheric game worlds to life. This is a hands-on opportunity to learn industry workflows, improve your craft, and contribute to exciting in-development projects.

How you can have an impact in your position:
  • Assist the lighting team in setting up and refining in-game lighting for environments, cinematics, and gameplay moments
  • Work within Unreal Engine (or proprietary tools) to implement and polish lighting passes
  • Support the team with lighting optimization, post-process setup, and troubleshooting
  • Participate in critiques and iterate on feedback from senior team members
  • Learn and apply best practices for performance, mood, and readability

We are looking for you to have:  
  • A strong eye for light, color, and composition
  • Basic experience with a game engine (Unreal Engine preferred)
  • Portfolio demonstrating lighting in 3D scenes (real-time or offline renders)
  • Eagerness to learn, take feedback, and grow in a collaborative team environment
  • Current student or recent graduate in game art, VFX, CG, or a related field

In addition, ideally, you might also have:
  • Familiarity with real-time lighting techniques and optimization
  • Knowledge of cinematography or photography
  • Interest in games developed by Funcom or similar genres
