Job Summary

Job Description

The role is responsible for analyzing motor designs and making recommendations for Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE), Compliance, and New Product Development (NPD) projects. This includes motors manufactured by Pentair and those sourced from other manufacturers. Responsibilities also cover components supporting motor operation such as capacitors, starting switches, and overloads. A working knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and their impact on motor operation is required. The position also involves people management, as two motor engineers will report to this role.
Must have:
  • 12+ years experience in single and three phase motor design
  • Experience with motor lamination materials and coatings
  • Experience using performance data for loss separation
  • Familiarity with motor manufacturing processes and tolerances
  • Experience with dimensioning and tolerances of motor components
  • Knowledge of induction motor testing (Dynamometer, Surge, Hipot)
  • Experience with electromagnetic simulation software
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements (UL, ETL)
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate, and problem-solve
  • Good communication and presentation skills
Good to have:
  • Experience in fractional and integral HP motors
  • Experience in selecting thermal protectors
  • Experience with VFD Drives application and programming
  • Working experience in SolidWorks
  • Experience working with a global team (USA and Europe)
  • Active participation in product development, VA/VE, NPD

Job Description:

This person will be responsible for analyzing motor designs and making recommendations to support VA/VE, Compliance, and NPD projects.  This includes not only motors manufactured by Pentair but also motors sourced from other motor manufacturers.  Responsibility will include the capacitors, starting switches, overloads, and other items that support operation of the motor.  The role also requires a working knowledge of VFD’s and their effect on motor operation. 

Additionally, as two motor engineers will be reporting in to this role, people management is also an important function this role should be performing.  

Qualifications:  B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech.(from Electrical and/or its sub streams)

Technical Skills:

  • Minimum 12 years experience in the design of single and three phase motors.  Preference for experience in fractional and integral HP motors.
  • Thorough understanding of lamination materials, processing, and coatings. 
  • Experienced in use of performance data for separation of losses.
  • Experience in the selection of thermal protectors.
  • Familiarity with motor manufacturing processes and associated tolerances.
  • Experienced with the dimensioning and tolerances of motor components.
  • Well conversant with induction motor testing. Dynamometer, Surge, Hipot, etc.
  • Experience of using Electromagnetic simulation software. 
  • Well conversant with regulatory requirements like UL, ETL etc.
  • Preference for experience with VFD Drives application and programming parameters.
  • Working experience in SolidWorks.

  • Experience of working with a global team (mainly USA and Europe)
  • Actively participate in the product development processes, VA/VE, NPD including design brainstorming.
