Job Description
Coupa is seeking a Manager, Performance Engineering to lead their Performance Engineering Team. This role involves managing an agile team of 6+ engineers, hiring and retaining top talent, and defining the long-term roadmap and release planning. The manager will be involved in technical architecture and design decisions, collaborate with Product Management, Development Engineering, and Cloud Infrastructure teams to scale applications and infrastructure, and provide technical assistance to improve system performance, capacity, reliability, and scalability. The position requires proactive end-to-end cluster scalability, performance, and exceptions analysis, with a focus on continually improving the platform, process, and business. The manager will also act as an evangelist for performance best practices and tools.
Must have:
- 14+ years of experience in Performance Engineering
- Domain expert on public cloud, distributed systems, microservices architecture
- Experienced in Performance engineering design, implementation, and automation
- Proven experience in performance, scalability analysis and optimizations
- Experienced in distributed tracing tools/APM (New Relic, Grafana, Kibana)
- Ability to support and mentor individuals and teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
Good to have:
- Experience in gatling, AWS, AZURE, ruby/java, MySQL, Lunix, microservices
- Good functional understanding of enterprise SaaS products
- Prior experience managing Ruby on Rails development projects
- Enterprise platform architecture

What You’ll Do:
- Lead the evolution of the Coupa Performance Engineering Team, to serve the need of our many functional teams and acquired applications
- Manage an agile team of 6+ engineers
- Hire, retain and motivate top talent on the team
- Define long-term roadmap and drive release planning and execution
- Be involved in technical architecture and design decisions
- Work closely with peers to ensure successful outcomes and improve business processes
- Collaborate with Product Management, Development Engineering, and Cloud Infrastructure teams to find the optimal way to scale applications and the infrastructure.
- Provide technical assistance to improve system performance, capacity, reliability, and scalability.
- Proactive end-to-end cluster scalability, performance, and exceptions analysis.
- Continually look for opportunities to improve our platform, process, and business.
- Be an evangelist for performance best practices and tools
What will you bring to Coupa:
- At least 14+ years of experience in Performance Engineering.
- Domain expert on public cloud, distributed system, micro services architecture and capacity planning
- Experienced in Performance engineering design, implementing, and automating benchmarks
- Proven experience in performance, scalability analysis and optimizations
- Experienced in distributed tracing tools/APM such as New Relic, Grafana, Kibana to collect traces, metrics, and logs and create meaningful dashboards and alerts.
- Experience in gatling, AWS, AZURE, ruby/java, MySQL, Lunix, microservices etc.
- Ability to support and mentor both individuals and teams.
- Good functional understanding of enterprise SaaS products
- Ability to support and mentor individual and team
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
