Job Description

The Manager, Procurement is responsible for overseeing the strategic sourcing management goals for Coherent wafer fab's globally. This includes developing and implementing procurement strategies, analyzing industry trends, and managing supplier relationships. The role involves negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance with company guidelines, and mentoring staff. The manager will monitor department performance, ensure inventory levels, and participate in operational meetings. This role requires a strong understanding of procurement processes, negotiation, and supplier management to drive efficiency, add value, and mitigate risks within the supply chain. The manager will also be responsible for ensuring team members adhere to the site safety standards and expectations, and may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • At least 5 years of purchasing/strategic sourcing experience.
  • 3+ years relevant operations/supply chain experience.
  • At least 3 years of management experience.
Good to have:
  • Procurement experience in semiconductor manufacturing a plus.

Job Details

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall strategic sourcing management goals of Coherent wafer fab's globally and implemented action items to ensure that those goals are achieved for fab direct materials and capital equipment.
  • Develop and implement creative and innovative procurement processes and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement.
  • Analyze industry trends and evolving technology to proactively identify supply base issues to minimize risk, protect continuity of supply, and utilize emerging opportunities.
  • Develop a supplier management program with key suppliers including metrics, performance goals, and improvement initiatives. Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
  • Negotiate contracts, improve pricing and terms with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods.
  • Ensures that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships.
  • Ensure compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures, and legal requirements are met during supplier negotiations and contracts award process.
  • Manage and mentor staff, encouraging professional growth & development as well as coaching and feedback through performance discussions.
  • Monitor department performance against the annual operating goals and objectives.
  • Ensure MRP system integrity, monitoring activity and indicators and purchasing transactions are moving through the system in a timely manner.
  • Ensure Buyers are maintaining proper inventory levels to the benefit of the operation’s performance.
  • Determine appropriate contracts for various types of procurement needs; review requisitions/purchase orders and related documents for completeness, accuracy and compliance with department and company procedures and requirements; review invoices and other documentation for accuracy and compliance; resolve disputed invoices.
  • Participates in operational meetings and updates business leaders on issues or concerns regarding procurement matters, especially when there is a risk that could prevent the operation in meeting customer demands.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration or a closely related field and at least five (8) years purchasing/strategic sourcing experience along with 3+ years relevant operations/supply chain experience, contract management and supplier experience.

  • At least 3 years of management experience, preferably leading a department or functional team.
  • 4 Year College Degree (Bachelor or Equivalent)
  • 4-5 years of global procurement experience
  • Procurement experience in semiconductor manufacturing a plus 

Skills & Other Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques as well as an aptitude for reading the market.
  • Exceptional talent in negotiating and networking.
  • Ability to manage projects and establish clear goals and accountabilities to ensure successful delivery (on time, within budget, meeting agreed upon success criteria).
  • Knowledge of the legal terminology and language related to supplier and/or vendor agreements and contracts.
  • Highly skilled at building and maintaining effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills are required to support internal customer’s and external supplier relationships as well individuals in all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts, encourage collaboration and influence others to achieve business objectives.
  • Ability to drive actions and solutions through cross-functional teams by using professional concepts and company objectives to resolve a wide range of complex issues in creative and effective ways
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and ensure timely completion of assigned projects and duties.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in an open-concept office environment.
  • Ability to work weekends as needed to respond to the business needs of a 24/7 manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to work around chemicals (such as solids and acids)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for up to 1 hour at a time
  • Ability to lift up to 6-10 Pounds 
  • Ability to push/pull up to 6-10 pounds
  • Ability to sit for up to 4 hours at a time
  • Ability to go into the cleanroom and adorn cleanroom attire.

Safety Requirements

All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corporate EHS standards.

  • Responsible for following the site EHS procedures and the II-VI Corporate EHS standards which includes completion of mandatory safety training as assigned.
  • Responsible for ensuring team members adhere to the site safety standards and expectations.

Qu   Quality & Environmental Responsibilities

       Depending on location, this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to t      the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.

This position is responsible for the execution and maintenance of the IS0 9001, 14001 and other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.  This will include supplier audits on a global basis, and work with supplier development engineers to resolve quality issues.
