CD PROJEKT RED seeks a Material Artist for a one-year contract to contribute to their upcoming RPG projects. Responsibilities include creating photorealistic materials (tiling, decals, atlases) using PBR techniques, collaborating with art directors and other artists, preparing shaders with technical artists, and ensuring visual quality and performance. The role involves creating material libraries for use across various game worlds, utilizing a variety of software such as Adobe Substance 3D Designer and Photoshop. The selected candidate will participate in planning and concept creation for locations and assets, contributing to the overall artistic vision and player experience.
Must have:
  • 3+ years experience, AAA title shipped
  • Proficient in Substance 3D Designer
  • Skilled in Photoshop/equivalent
  • PBR knowledge
  • Color theory and lighting understanding
  • Modeling software proficiency (3DS Max, Maya, Blender)
  • Excellent communication & teamwork

Job Description

CD PROJEKT RED is currently looking for a talented Material Artist to join our Environment Art team on a one-year contract. As a Material Artist, you will contribute to creating a library of realistic materials to be used across various worlds in our upcoming projects, captivating millions of players. Excited to join us? Daily responsibilities

  • Create photorealistic materials for different uses, (tiling, decals, atlases etc.) in a variety of tools. Utilising a good understanding of physically based rendering, art direction, player guidance and metrics.
  • Participate in the creation of plans and concepts for locations and assets.
  • Cooperate with our Art Directors and Art Leads to push the quality of your materials, while maintaining artistic consistency and game vision.
  • Collaborate directly with the Environment and Asset artists involved in using the library of prepared materials.
  • Prepare patterns and decorative elements with our Concept Artists for use on assets and locations.
  • Collaborate with Technical artists to prepare shaders using your materials.
  • Use your knowledge to help put the finishing touches on assets, landscape and architecture using your materials.
  • Maintain the production pipeline and help achieve the project's visual quality and performance goals.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience and one shipped AAA title.
  • Strong skills in procedural material creation software (Adobe Substance 3D Designer)
  • Experience in Adobe Photoshop or equivalent
  • Efficient skills in one of the leading modelling packages (3DS Max, Maya, Blender etc.)
  • Good knowledge of colour theory and lighting techniques.
  • Ability to work from scanned data
  • Strong understanding of physically based rendering practices (PBR).
  • Good knowledge of shaders and supporting texture maps
  • Self-motivated, proactive and dedicated to improving your work
  • Ability to estimate workload and manage deadlines
  • Creativity and an eye for detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Fluent English.
  • Passion for games.

Nice to have
(Please note that these skills are not required to apply for the position)

  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine 5.

Working mode

For this role you can choose between a remote-first or office-first working mode.

  • Office-First: working primarily from the Warsaw, Wroclaw, or Cracow office for a minimum of 10 days per month.
  • Remote-First: working from home, or from any location that is within 3 hours away of the UTC +2 time zone.
