Job Description

As a Material Specialist, you will be responsible for managing materials for locomotive maintenance at the customer's facility. This includes retrieving materials from the warehouse, ensuring they are assigned to the correct locomotives, managing stockouts, performing inventory management through cycle counts, and forecasting material needs. You will also perform quality control on shipments, arrange shipments, use multiple software programs for inventory management, compile reports, process sales, and retrieve repair cycled assets. Additional responsibilities include restocking the warehouse and shop floor, processing warranty claims, and performing daily counts of large commodity assets. The role requires adhering to safety procedures and recording material transactions. The candidate should have a high school diploma/GED or at least 1-3 years of recent and relevant work history and ability to work in warehouse/ heavy shop environment. They should also be able to obtain Wabtec’s Level 1 Materials Certification within the prescribed time from hire.

En tant que membre de l’équipe Field Services Americas, vous serez responsable d’aider notre client (CPKC) à entretenir sa flotte de locomotives Wabtec en fournissant un soutien exceptionnel en gestion des matériaux et en logistique.   • Diplôme d’études secondaires / GED / ou au moins 1 à 3 ans d’expérience professionnelle récente et pertinente.

  • Capacité à effectuer des calculs mathématiques de base.

  • Capacité et volonté de soulever régulièrement environ 16 kg (35 lb).

  • Expérience réussie dans un environnement de travail en logistique ou en expédition/réception.

  • Expérience préalable dans l’utilisation sécuritaire de chariots élévateurs et d’autres équipements d’atelier.

  • Grande attention aux détails pour gérer plusieurs tâches/responsabilités.

  • Capacité à travailler dans un entrepôt ou un environnement d’atelier lourd.

  • Expérience, volonté et capacité à travailler dans un atelier et à effectuer divers quarts de travail selon les besoins, y compris un horaire flexible pour effectuer des audits et des formations.

  • Capacité à maintenir une présence fiable et prévisible.

  • Un haut niveau de fiabilité, une excellente attitude et une capacité à bien travailler en équipe pour atteindre un objectif commun.

  • Bonnes compétences en communication.

  • L’attention aux détails et la précision sont essentielles.

À quoi ressemblera votre journée typique ?

  • Prélever du matériel de l’entrepôt pour l’atelier et s’assurer qu’il est attribué à la bonne locomotive avec toutes les informations nécessaires : position, numéro de série, raison du retrait, fiche de service.

  • Gérer les ruptures de stock chaque semaine, y compris obtenir des délais de livraison mis à jour pour les pièces en rupture ou faibles en stock.

  • Gérer l’inventaire par des comptages cycliques et aider/diriger la coordination de l’inventaire physique annuel.

  • Prévoir les besoins en matériel pour les locomotives entrantes et en atelier, et obtenir les pièces nécessaires de manière rapide et rentable.

  • Effectuer des contrôles de qualité sur les expéditions entrantes et sortantes pour répondre aux normes de l’entreprise, y compris vérifier les documents d’expédition pour détecter les écarts et résoudre les retards ou conflits potentiels.

  • Organiser les expéditions LTL et urgentes via le portail Ryder, s’assurer que les documents appropriés sont joints à toutes les expéditions et que les bons de livraison (BOL) corrects sont utilisés pour une facturation adéquate. Obtenir les documents douaniers nécessaires avant l’expédition, le cas échéant.

  • Utiliser efficacement plusieurs logiciels pour commander, recevoir, expédier et suivre le matériel vers et depuis l’entrepôt, y compris les matières dangereuses avec les documents d’expédition appropriés.

  • Compiler des rapports sur divers indicateurs d’inventaire.

  • Traiter les ventes de matériel.

  • Récupérer les actifs en cycle de réparation sur le plancher de l’atelier, y compris leur traitement rapide et approprié dans Oracle pour assurer leur réparation et leur retour en stock.

  • Réapprovisionner l’entrepôt et le plancher de l’atelier.

  • Effectuer l’entretien général, le nettoyage et l’organisation de l’entrepôt.

  • Traiter les réclamations de garantie pour tout noyau retiré admissible à la garantie.

  • Effectuer des comptages quotidiens des actifs de grande valeur, y compris la vérification du numéro de série et de la taille pour les actifs finis (FGI) et ceux en cycle de réparation.

  • Porter l’équipement de sécurité approprié et suivre toutes les procédures locales, du client et de l’entreprise.

  • Enregistrer les transactions de matériaux telles que la réception, la distribution et l’utilisation via le système ou le programme informatique approprié.

  • Expérience avec Oracle/SAP ou d’autres systèmes de gestion des stocks

  • Compréhension de la certification en transport de marchandises dangereuses (cours DOT/TDG)

  • Capacité à obtenir la certification de niveau 1 en gestion des matériaux de Wabtec dans le délai prescrit après l’embauche (généralement 12 à 18 mois)

  • Travail de nuit et sur plusieurs jours consécutifs, selon les besoins

Who will you be working with?

As a member of the Field Services Americas team, you will be responsible for helping our customer (CPKC) maintain their fleet of Wabtec locomotives by providing exceptional materials management and logistics support. You will be part of a team made up of Wabtec materials experts, all working to ensure our customer’s fleet is running at optimal levels.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Wabtec Field Service Team (CPKC), you will be responsible for all areas of Material handling and support for our end customer.

This position works onsite at our customer's facility where you'll play a critical function in ensuring maintenance materials are always available for locomotive repairs and maintenance. Our Materials Specialists are trained subject matter experts in our parts and logistics processes. They receive world-class training and become certified in materials management for state-of-the-art locomotive engines.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

  • Ability and willingness to lift approximately 35 lbs. regularly.

  • Successful previous experience working in a logistics or shipping/receiving work environment.

  • Previous experience safely operating forklifts and other shop equipment.

  • A high level of attention to detail in juggling multiple duties/responsibilities.

  • Must have the ability to work in warehouse/ heavy shop environment.

  • Experience, willingness, and ability to work in shop environment and to work various shifts on various days as required, including having a flexible work schedule to perform auditing and training on various shifts.

  • The ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance.

  • A high level of dependability, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal.

  • Possess good communication skills.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy is a must.

Don’t have experience with locomotives? That’s ok! We provide in-depth technical training to give our materials specialist the knowledge and expertise needed to be successful.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Pulling material from warehouse for shop use and ensuring material is issued to correct locomotive with all necessary information: position, serial number, removal reason, service sheet.

  • Weekly managing stockouts, including obtaining updated ETAs for completely stocked out parts or parts low on stock.

  • Performing inventory management via cycle counts and assist/lead the coordination of the Annual physical inventory.

  • Forecasting material needs for inbound and in-shop locomotives and pulling in any needed material in the timeliest and most cost-efficient manner.

  • Performing quality control processes on inbound and outbound shipments to meet company standards including checking shipment documents for discrepancies and resolving potential transportation delays or conflicts.

  • Arranging LTL and Expedite shipments using the Ryder portal as well as ensuring correct paperwork is attached to all shipments and correct BOLs are used for proper billing. Ensuring customs documents are requested and obtained prior to shipping when needed.

  • Effectively using multiple software programs to order, receive, ship, and track material to and from the warehouse. Including Hazmat material with appropriate shipping documents.

  • Compiling reports on various inventory metrics.

  • Processing sales of material. 

  • Retrieving repair cycled assets from shop floor. Including timely and appropriate processing of assets in Oracle to ensure material is repaired and returned to stock quickly.

  • Restocking warehouse and shop floor material.

  • Performing general housekeeping, maintenance, and organization of the warehouse.

  • Processing warranty claims on any removed core that is warranty eligible.

  • Performing daily counts of large commodity assets including verification of serial number and size for both FGI and repair cycle assets.

  • Wearing of the proper safety equipment and following all local, Customer and Business procedures is a must.

  • Recording of materials transactions such as receiving, distribution and Usage via appropriate system transaction or computer program.

  • Wearing all required personal protective gear (hardhat, steel toe boots, ear plugs, eye protection) throughout the day

  • Speaking and hearing

  • Typing and operating a computer

  • Experienced in MS Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Teams.

  • Experience in Oracle/SAP or other inventory control systems

  • Understanding of DOT/TDG Shipping Course Certification

  • Ability to obtain Wabtec’s Level 1 Materials Certification in prescribed time from hire (usually 12-18 months)

  • Working overnight shifts and multiple days in a row, as required

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
